Last week our wonderful partner, Impossible Foods, brought meals to feed front line workers at the Rose Bowl Command Center, to feed families affected by the fires at The Dream Center in LA and 9Thirty LA, and to feed second responders at the Pasadena Community Job Center. A sheriff told us that the clean up efforts are just beginning and could last months - so the need to feed our heroes and community will continue long after the news cycle ends. Update on our #LAStrong campaign. So far, because of generous donations to our GoFundMe campaign (Link In Comments), we’ve raised over $60,000 and donated over 5,000 meals to first responders working on the Palisades and Eaton fires. This week we started serving breakfast and dinner during shift changes to first responders at the Rose Bowl, where an estimated 4,000-5,000 firefighters, police officers, sheriff's deputies, national guardsmen, and others are working to serve our community. “The hot meals are helping to keep up morale,” said one first responder we spoke with. On Saturday, we had the privilege of serving a hot meal, in the field, to more than 200 first responders fighting the Palisades Fire. It was the first of four services scheduled over the weekend and today (Monday), during which we will serve nearly 1,000 meals to fire fighters and police officers who have been working around the clock (some on 56-hour shifts). “Wow! Thank you so much. We’re not used to this,” were words we repeatedly heard from the heroes we served. We feel lucky to be able to leverage the power of Roaming Hunger’s food truck platform to fuel those keeping our community safe. We also helped support our local food community by engaging one of our food truck partners – El Mas Chingon – to provide the amazing food.
