Every child deserves the chance to see the world—literally. Thanks to #AI, premature babies at risk of losing their sight now have new hope. 💡 In collaboration with the University Hospital Ostrava | Fakultní nemocnice Ostrava 🏥 and VŠB – Technical University of Ostrava | Vysoká škola báňská - Technická univerzita Ostrava 🤖, we’re proud that ROBOPROX teams at #VSBTUO contributed to a solution that is transforming the diagnosis and treatment of retinopathy of prematurity. This serious condition, which can lead to blindness in premature babies, is now being tackled with advanced AI technology. 👁️🦾 By analyzing thousands of retinal images, progressive algorithms can detect abnormalities more accurately and even predict how well a baby’s blood vessels respond to treatment. The result? Faster diagnoses, better care, and brighter futures for those who need it most. 👶 We’re especially proud of Jana Nowáková, a key contributor to this project and a member of the #ROBOPROX #WomenForum, for her role in driving this work forward. Huge thanks also to Václav Snášel, Rector of VŠB-TUO and all the researchers and institutions involved for their achievements. 🙏

Imagine a future where seniors can live independently, while still staying connected to their caregivers in real time. Sounds like science fiction? Not anymore. 😎 We’re really happy about the engagement of Karla Štěpánová's team, part of the #ROBOPROX, in the #EULE project, an advanced initiative to revolutionize elderly care with AI-driven home monitoring systems. 🏡 In collaboration with IWS Innovations- und Wissensstrategien GmbH, MediTECH Electronic GmbH, cibX GmbH, Deutsche Sporthochschule Köln and Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics and Cybernetics, the project is using #AI and sensor #tech to help monitor seniors’ health and alert caregivers at the moment something goes wrong.💪 Why share this here? Because ROBOPROX is all about pushing the boundaries of what #AI and #robotics can do to improve lives. This project is just one step towards that bigger goal. 🎯 👉 Ready to see what’s next? Check out the website of EULE for more information: https://lnkd.in/g5KG9mCH

#ROBOPROXPublication: Many congratulations to the #CTU researchers of Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague and Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics and Cybernetics for an excellent paper in #IEEE Transactions on Robotics IEEE Xplore (IF 9.4)! 🎉 Michal Pliska, Shubhan Patni, Michal Mareš, Pavel Stoudek, Zdeněk Straka, Matej Hoffmann and Karla Štěpánová demonstrate how gripper design, sensory inputs, and action parameters influence haptic object recognition. 🤖✋ Discover more in: https://lnkd.in/e3mT_9QQ Open access/ preprint #ArXiv: https://lnkd.in/ewqQY8nS We're proud to support research that pushes the boundaries of #robotics and tactile intelligence.🚀 M. Pliska et al., "Single-Grasp Deformable Object Discrimination: The Effect of Gripper Morphology, Sensing Modalities, and Action Parameters," in IEEE Transactions on Robotics, vol. 40, pp. 4414-4426, 2024, doi: 10.1109/TRO.2024.3463402. #Grippers #Robots #Sensors #ObjectRecognition
🚀 New Insights in Robot Haptic Object Discrimination! Do you think haptic object recognition is about the sensory features or the classifier? Comparing two anthropomorphic hands and two 2-finger grippers, here we show that the gripper embodiment and the action parameters (hand configuration and grasping speed) play a far bigger role! Thrilled to share our latest research: "Single-Grasp Deformable Object Discrimination: The Effect of Gripper Morphology, Sensing Modalities, and Action Parameters." just appeared in the IEEE Transactions on Robotics. with Michal Pliska, Shubhan Patni, Michal Mareš, Pavel Stoudek, Zdenek Straka, and Karla Štěpánová. 🔍 In this study, using four different robo grippers (2 parallel jaw, 2 anthromorphic hands) we explored how gripper embodiment, sensory inputs, and movement parameters (grasp configuration and speed) impact the ability to discriminate objects. We conducted over 24,000 measurements on two datasets, including one consisting of 20 polyurethane foams - practically indistinguishable for humans. 💡 Visualization of the feature space showed that gripper shape and movement were the biggest contributors to variance, highlighting the challenge of generalization (Cross-Embodiment) in haptic perception. 🚀 Check out the video below to see the robots in action, and access our dataset of 24,000 measurements to explore further!
