  • HOW TO KEEP UP YOUR JOB SEARCH GAME WHEN YOU’RE FEELING DRAINED Starting a new job search can seem easy in the beginning, but when you have been searching for a while, it can start to feel draining. Finding the energy to stay motivated and keep going can feel overwhelming. So how can you find the energy to keep going when you feel exhausted?   Start by challenging your mind-set. Instead of letting fatigue take over your mental state, acknowledge how you’re feeling without judgment. Take a few days off from the job search and instead meet with friends and talk about other things in your life. Then start again by sitting down and making a new plan. Stay open to new possibilities. Focus on broadening your scope, reaching out to companies that might not have been your first choice, but maybe there is something else to be curious about. This will create momentum and get you back to action.   Don’t limit yourself to job boards only. Talking to friends, family, and reconnecting with old colleagues can be more effective and lead to new ideas. Seek out job opportunities or companies that align with your personal values so they feel meaningful. When you emotionally connect with what you’re searching for, it’s more likely to keep you motivated and going. Finally, don’t lose hope. Here are 3 observations on why age comes packed with positive impact and something really super: 💡 BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY Our lengthening lives are creating new and varied consumer groups. If you're a business, this is an exciting period of time because you no longer just have to focus on youth. If Americans aged 50+ were their own country, they’d be the third-largest economy in the world. According to the AARP Longevity Economy Outlook report, consumers aged 50 and up contribute $8.3tn each year in economic activity to the US economy, with a GDP that’s expected to triple by 2050. By being inclusive of all generations and all market segments, you are capturing a much bigger piece of the pie. 💡 SOCIAL OPPORTUNITY With 5 generations in the workforce today, there is a lot of room for a culture of equality with each generation having their unique responsibility and measure in society. Older and younger people together builds empathy. Society tends to look at older populations as disposable. But we're seeing that populations are starting to have more in common than generations of the past and are remaining connected consumers for longer periods of time. This idea that 65 is a stopping point is moot— today it's a starting point. And that's exciting. 💡 CULTURAL OPPORTUNITY The traditional notion of age bubbles is being questioned, paving the way for a potential cultural transformation. Consumer attitudes have been fundamentally ageist, creating “problems” that require attention. For example, in the beauty industry, the use of terms like "anti-aging," "age defying," and "wrinkle repair" creates a negative connotation around aging, implying that there is something to be feared and corrected. This language reinforces the idea that aging is undesirable and that products are needed to combat it. Similar age-related biases can be seen across other industries such areas such as healthcare, media and technology. However, change is clearly on the horizon. At rocket50.io, we are optimistic about this shift. From an economic standpoint, disregarding older populations is unsustainable for businesses. We believe that fostering healthy aging is not only beneficial but also a positive step forward for society. She previously also launched and led The RealReal in her mid 50s and knows what it takes to run business worth over 1 billion dollars! People over the age of 55 make up 21% of the U.S. population. This demographic owns 50.9% of U.S. small businesses, according to survey data from 3,000 entrepreneurs published by SCORE Mentors. The likelihood of entrepreneurial success increases with age. Based on the study, a 50-year-old founder is twice as likely as a 30-year-old to build a company that goes public or gets acquired. The reasons are obvious: Many of us have a long career that is packed with expertise that needs to be transformed into a narrative and strategy that makes us look fresh, attractive, up-for-the-challenge and forward-looking, while additionally navigating the age-challenge. It’s no surprise that people’s feelings are mixed about it, but one thing that’s clear is that Artificial Intelligence is here to stay and we all need to be prepared to engage with it! A study on the impact of AI on the future of the workforce in the European Union and U.S. explains that older workers are often the most affected by AI, because AI performs tasks that often belong to jobs involving high levels of education and accumulated experience.
