Please help us congratulate Cassandra Player, RN at our Aurora clinic, for being a 2024 DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses nominee! Cassandra was recognized by a patient for her exceptional care. Here is what that patient said about her: "I have been a patient going on six years now. I have witnessed a lot of nurses and caregivers during my time here. One nurse I would like to bring to your attention is Cassandra Player. Cassandra has been my nurse for too many times for me to single out just one day or event. She is always pleasant and extremely kind towards me and has never shown a bad day or attitude. I find her specifically kind towards everyone. I know how difficult it must be considering her role at a cancer center. Her pleasant attitude in the face of patients facing great pain and families dealing with tragedy and grief. I have been diagnosed with terminal cancer but she treats me with compassion and kindness and she doesn’t single me out just because of my diagnosis. The last thing I want is to be treated as if I’m “made of glass” and need to be handled carefully."

We are proud to recognize Samantha Rhoads, RN at our Denver - Rose clinic, for being a 2024 DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses nominee! One of Samantha's patients nominated her for this award for distinguished care. Here is what the patient said in their nomination: "On May 16th I went to RMCC to get my first chemo treatment. I was very apprehensive and afraid of the whole process as it was my first one. As soon as I entered the chemo room, Samantha came over with a happy smile and immediately put me at ease. She explained every detail and answered every question we had. She was very good at calming me down with her positive demeanor. Samantha made the whole experience bearable. The next day when I came in to get my portable unit removed, she took the time to show my wife and I how to do it ourselves the next treatment. I would love to have her assistance every time in the future!"

Last week, as a member of the Community Oncology Alliance Board, 35 physicians, pharmacists, and practice administrators had a chance to meet with 15 members of Congress and other staff in Washington, D.C. to discuss critical issues related to cancer care. The group was able to thank Rep. Diana DeGette and other representatives for their support to pass HR 5526 - Seniors' Access to Critical Medications Act. Pictured with Rep. DeGette is Glenn Balasky, executive director for Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers, who spoke about this experience. “I have had the chance to personally meet with Rep. DeGette three times in the past year to discuss some of the key issues related to cancer care access for Medicare beneficiaries," he said. "She has a great understanding of the complex needs of Medicare patients and is committed to working in Congress to find practical solutions.“

Congratulations to Brittany Walker, RN at our Denver - Rose clinic, for being a 2024 DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses recipient! Brittany was nominated by the husband of one of her patients for the outstanding care she has provided. Here is what he had to say about her: "My wife has been receiving chemotherapy treatments at the infusion center in RMCC. Brittany has been so amazing as our primary nurse at the cancer center. As you can imagine this time in our lives has been extremely challenging and anything that can help make the process easier or more enjoyable is priceless. Brittany has been kind, thoughtful, as well as very intelligent about the process. My wife looks forward to the conversations they have during treatment which makes it so much easier to sit through treatments. Brittany also seems to care deeply about her profession and her patients. I can’t imagine that anyone deserves this award more than Brittany. She’s truly an amazing nurse and person. I never thought there would be something we would miss about the treatment center but she will be missed!"
