Among a general cross-section of employees, some of the most frequent types of support they want from their companies from a culture perspective: - professional development and growth - flexibility for work-life balance - recognition - rewards CMV drivers are probably not a lot different from everyone else in what they want from company culture. It might be important for retention. How does your company address this? How do you see the industry addressing this overall? How could it be better? Why value driver retention? #Commercialdrivers #trucking #driverretention #transportation #retention

On this Veterans Day, we thank and honor all those who have served, equally regardless of time period, war or peace time. As those WWII veterans still with us are in their twilight years, we want to thank them one more time while we can. Among all US wars, it was WWII that saw the greatest percentage of the population serve (9%), having the most direct impact on such a large percentage of all families. There are resources where you can learn more about individual veterans so that you can know more about them as you honor and thank them. One such source is https://lnkd.in/gsc-bxkV. #veteransday #thanks #usa

We believe that the vast majority of commercial drivers deserve respect. Respect that they are responsible professionals. Respect that they want to do a good job, drive safely, deliver on time, use their time productively, know how to plan time and make good decisions. Respect that they want to help their employers be successful, profitable and compliant while meeting and surpassing expectations for all the others they interact with in their supply chains. Respect that they're imperfect human beings that want to learn, grow and be accountable. There are many reasons that drivers don't get the deserved respect. We're doing our part to insert some respect back into the mix. It's one of the nuanced benefits associated with our RollingReminder compliance tool. Based on a win-win concept. What about those other drivers? We believe that of the minority of drivers that don't necessarily deserve respect today, with the right kind of support most of them would gladly up their game and count themselves among those deserving respect. Everyone wants to feel pride even if they won't outwardly admit it. Let's make transportation and logistics better for those working in it and safer for everyone. Respect across the board is critical for that to happen. #driverrespect #CMVdrivers #truckingcompliance #safetyoperations #transportation

It's that time of year to get your #compliance house in order if you haven't already. Soon, the weather will make everything just a little more difficult and time will get squeezed. It's not just equipment repairs and #preventivemaintenance that maybe you've put off. Weather and the extra holiday rush will undoubtedly impact delivery times for many. Winter road conditions and fewer daylight driving hours always unleash more unexpected and undesirable events that eat time and break carrier schedules. Renew and update any driver and vehicle credentials proactively to the extent possible. Driver #downtime means equipment downtime so it pays to plan ahead. Sure, compliance should be something you do daily. Even if you do, we're about to hit a time of year where it's not a great idea to wait until the last minute. Can we get any likes for the last hashtag below?! #proactivecompliance #drivercompliance #commercialtrucking #dispatchwishlist

You're a small or mid-size motor carrier. You have one person managing driver and vehicle compliance. They become disgruntled and suddenly quit. What happens next? Who takes over in the interim before you hire a replacement? Are they knowledgeable and fully capable for the task? What's the impact on your operations, dispatch, drivers, maintenance, customers, and of course - your state of compliance? Are you measuring the impact? How long before a replacement is up to speed? What questions would you add? Disruption from the normal flow of business happens all the time. But not without costs. Reinforcing compliance operations against sudden jolts, sometimes unforeseen, could save you big in the long run. What have you done to prepare? #businessdisruption #operationaldisruption #compliance #motorcarriersafety

When is the last time your company reviewed how renewals or other processes are communicated and accomplished? How far did that review go? Did it just look at the surface - the person responsible for renewing a license, med card, or other thing? Or did you dig deeper into the process that impacts the whole team? Most companies don't give a lot of thought to this. Renewals often get more of a "just get it done" treatment. That's understandable, if you don't look under the hood. If you've never done a deeper dive into your company's renewals process, it could pay off to start investigating a little. How? You don't have to make it a huge project to achieve real financial gains. Start small with a simple plan and a few steps. Focus on one step at a time. A good first step is to select a specific renewal. Identify the impacted personnel, effectively "the team". Who in the team needs to know? When? Why? What does the snapshot of communications around this look like? There are so many ways that an optimized process can impact a company's bottom line beyond just achieving compliance - productivity gains, driver retention, on-time deliveries, risk reduction, SMS/CSA score, etc. Want more insights on this? Reach out to us no matter your company size. We're happy to discuss your unique situation. #driverrenewals #processimprovement #compliance #transportationsafety

The looming East Coast and Gulf port strike is about pay raises and automation. Arguably, the bigger issue is automation because it has the potential to eliminate many high paying jobs. This is an age-old battle between businesses that want to be competitive and maximize profits while employees want good wages and job security. You can't really blame either for those positions because that's simply how things work. Technological advancement like automation is unstoppable as is the good and bad that comes with it. You can fight it (a losing battle), ignore it (at your own peril), or you can be proactive. If you're an outsider to a tech industry of any sort (fill in the blank...could be automation, AI, bio-pharma etc.), you might be hugely wowed if you attended an industry trade show. You would be even more amazed to see the coming advancements being developed at universities. Again, like it or not, new realities are coming. Were all about being proactive in how we help ground transportation companies with their safety and compliance efforts. It's our response to helping companies that leave things to chance or that have inefficient processes in place. How do we do that and how can that be applied to other industries like the port contract battle? We look at where things stand today. And we look at where things are headed and identify the risks that have a tendency to eventually catch up with any business. We also have to look at outside developments that could potentially become new issues at some future point. Like how wary blacksmiths might have taken some time to consider the automobile industry in its infancy. Maybe this is best-termed being street-wise or street-savvy. But beyond being a lifelong learner and being observant of the world around you and things way outside your expertise, this becomes about taking actions and making changes before the crush happens. If there had been more of a proactive push to evolve, grow and transition in the port case, the battle might not have occurred. All parties probably could have done more on the proactive front - from the companies to the union leaders to the rank and file. And they could have done it with mutual benefit as a unified team of partners as opposed to adversaries. But everyone has to come to that dance and forget about saving face. This is not meant to look down on any of those parties. It is in our general culture and nature as humans to focus more on ourselves than others, more on today and less on tomorrow. But it's when you focus on tomorrow that makes all the "todays" better. We hope for the best possible outcome for all parties in this port battle and that it is a step forward in the mutually proactive mindset. #proactivebusiness #groundtransportation #safetyandcompliance #dockworkerstrike

Safety is a process and a mindset. It's been said many times. While it's great to acknowledge CMV drivers for getting everyone's stuff from point A to point B, the far greater acknowledgement is doing it safely so that everyone on the road gets to where they're going safely and without incident. #NTDAW24 #thankyou
As National Truck Driver Appreciation Week comes to a close, I realize that I never pushed out the "thank you" rhetoric. But I didn't ignore it either. I kept it really simple. Any time I was on the road in my personal vehicle, I did a few little things a little more front-of-mind than usual as my show of support. Maybe not surprisingly, they're all about process like my trucking compliance business is. When passing, I put a lot of distance behind me before pulling in front of a truck. And I used my signal in advance through the completion of the lane change. No quick swerving. When passing, I slowed down some (especially on uphill grades) if my rate of speed was significantly greater than the truck's speed so that I wasn't passing by the truck too fast to be seen. Kept plenty of distance behind trucks so I could see their mirrors and they could see me. I kept my eyes on the road with sharpened 360 degree awareness and looking well forward. I kept my lights on in foggy weather so I could be seen, front and back. In busier traffic with higher chances of needing to brake hard unexpectedly, I tried not to be one of the fastest vehicles out there and by looking well forward, I was able to ease up and brake earlier, lighter. As long as those behind me paid attention, no one needed to be at risk. On local road intersections, I made sure to give ample room for truck turns. I don't deserve any accolades. This is stuff everyone should be doing as the norm. Not sure whether any truckers on the road with me noticed but I think a few other personal vehicle drivers got annoyed with me for not driving like a jerk. I have no apologies. And maybe some truckers noticed those drivers getting annoyed and smiled a little. If they did, then I guess my actions were noticed! #NTDAW24 #driverappreciation #safedriving #trucking #leadbyexample

Learning, business success, and growth are all connected. The startup world offers critical perspective for any stage business.
Fantastic evening yesterday in Troy NY networking and learning about new entrepreneurial ventures at Startup Tech Valley. Always a positive high energy forum with so much value and opportunity. Here's a small taste of what I've learned from these events. In no particular order, it's a place to: - meet investors and find other sources of funding - find business partners, cofounders, and service providers - find mentors - learn about new ideas and tools, creative business methods, people and prospects, bootstrapping success and fails, etc. - challenge your own startup assumptions and plans (constructive criticism) - receive and pay it forward - and so much more. Over time as the community gets to know you (real networking), you can earn their respect and they become willing to act as a resource to help in your success, meeting new people along the way. Thank you to all the organizers for your hard work reviving this event post-COVID19. #SUTV #startuptechvalley #startups #networking #professionalgrowth
