I am happy to share that an exclusive opinion article co-authored by Dr Hardik Sankhla appeared in the Elets eHealth magazine's online edition. The article is titled "Transforming Healthcare: India’s Journey Towards a Functional Health Insurance Claims Exchange." This piece delves into the government's vision of "Insurance for All," emphasizing the urgent need to enhance health insurance penetration while ensuring affordability. A recent report by the National Insurance Academy, Pune reveals a concerning statistic – over 400 million individuals, approximately a third of the population, lack health insurance due to lower penetration rates, inadequate coverage, and rising healthcare expenses. The lack of standardization in the current system contributes to complexity and can lead to higher costs for consumers. introducing a regulator could standardize practices, promote transparency, and ultimately reduce costs, making health insurance more affordable and accessible to a broader population. In response to these challenges, the National Health Authority (NHA) has developed a National Health Claims Exchange (#HCX) to facilitate the interoperability of health claims. HCX serves as a vital protocol for exchanging claims-related information among various stakeholders, including insurers, healthcare facilities, providers, and beneficiaries. This initiative is aligned with the government’s broader agenda of leveraging technology to enhance healthcare services and improve the overall health insurance ecosystem. The key features of the proposed HCX include digital submission, data security through advanced encryption, and interoperability for seamless data exchange between different systems. The primary objective of HCX is to enhance the claim settlement process, improve efficiency and speed, ensure data accuracy, and ultimately achieve cost savings in health insurance. Cervical cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women worldwide. Despite being preventable and treatable when detected early, many women, particularly in rural areas, are unaware of this disease and the importance of regular screenings. On the 5th of June 2024, we took a step towards bridging this gap by holding a #CervicalCancer screening camp in collaboration with DigiSwasthya Foundation at the Primary Health Center #PHC in Mamura Village, Noida, Uttar Pradesh. We screened women and conducted general OPD for all the patients who attended the camp. Additionally, we educated the local community about cervical cancer and provided necessary medication to those in need. This camp underscored the critical lack of awareness about cervical cancer and women’s health in these areas. With more initiatives like this, we can spread much-needed awareness and bring essential healthcare services to rural communities.
