Great experience hosting a side event at the COP16Riyadh in KSA. It is always inspiring to hear Helmy Abouleish speak about the SEKEM Group and the miracle of greening the desert. He was joined by Thoraya Seada, a leader at Economy of Love carbon standard that is transforming the livelihoods of farmers in Egypt and soon in other countries. Willem Ferwerda, founder of Commonland, gave us great insights into how to build up long lasting partnerships to finance landscape restoration. Over a decade now that #4Returns framework has been implemented and the evidences are there to prove its effectiveness, particularly in the case of AlVelAl. My great partner Tristano Bacchetti De Gregoris, head of SAE Innova, brought to the table that financing instruments, such as carbon farming credits, must be seen as catalysts for the holistic transformation that the rural system needs to achieve climate resilience, social improvements and sustainable food production in challenging times. Farms4ClimateProject - a PRIMA Partnership project - is responsible for building this collaborative effort and for years of work to support smallholder rural communities to achieve a next level.
