  • Memorandum between the Via Francigena and the Camino de Santiago On 6 November, Massimo Tedeschi, President of the European Association of the Via Francigena, and Ildefonso de la Campa Montenegro, President of the European Federation of the Saint James Ways, signed a Memorandum of Understanding, focused on collaboration between the two cultural routes of the Council of Europe, recognised in 1994 and 1987 respectively. The joint work includes valorisation of slow and sustainable tourism and cultural heritage linked to the paths; exchange of best practices and participation in promotion actions. Both Associations contributed to the rurAllure projects and were studied in the project pilots with special attention to their cultural heritage in rural areas. The agreement has a strategic value, considering the Roman Catholic Jubilee year in 2025 and two important anniversaries: 2023 - 30th anniversary of the French way of the Camino de Santiago as a UNESCO heritage site and 30 years of the recognition of the Via Francigena as a cultural route of the Council of Europe in 2024.  #rurallure #viafrancigena #caminodesantiago Elena Dubinina - Sami T. - Luca Bruschi

  • Filippo, @myviafrancigena on Instagram, inspired our community with his beautiful stories about summer travel along the Via Francigena, winning the rurAllure photo contest in 2023. This Tuscan pilgrim fell in love with hiking in his adolescence during summer parish retreats in the Dolomites. In 2013 he walked the Camino de Santiago along the French route. Last summer he accomplished the first 5 stages of the Via Francigena in Italy from the Great Saint Bernard Pass to Ivrea, reconnecting with himself and meeting new friends worldwide. Filippo has been living abroad for more than 10 years and returns to the Via Francigena whenever possible, as walking towards Rome is more than a physical destination: it's a reminder to set out "on the right path". #rurallure #viafrancigena #CaminoDeSantiago European Association of the Via Francigena - Council of Europe
