In this RFD-TV interview, Rural Minds Founder and Chairman Jeff Winton discusses a new free online course – “Mental Health and Suicide Prevention in Rural America” – developed through a partnership with Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine and NY FarmNet: https://bit.ly/48fGTtE According to Jeff, the course “helps train veterinary students and veterinarians to be the ears and the eyes of the community because they are out and about on farms and ranches. They are meeting with farmers and ranchers on a daily basis and they are the ones that in many cases farmers trust.” The course is also tailored to ag industry professionals and veterinary students, but it’s available for anyone interested. Eating disorders are a serious type of mental illness that impact about 30 million Americans at some point during their lifetimes. When left untreated, they can be deadly. But there is hope – eating disorders are treatable and recovery is possible. The sooner a person with an eating disorder gets treatment, the better chance they have for long-term recovery. If you’re concerned that you may be struggling with an eating disorder, take the eating disorders online screening tool at: https://bit.ly/4ebjcEh. This first step takes only a few minutes and connects you to resources. You can also learn more about eating disorders and find additional resources in this #RuralMinds blog: https://bit.ly/3UdfB1i #NationalEatingDisordersScreeningMonth #NEDA #Screen4ED #RuralMentalHealth

On this Veterans Day, we acknowledge all of the brave men and women who have served in the armed forces. We are grateful for the courage, strength, and sacrifice that you and your families have made to defend our country and keep us safe. Even after they come home, many of our veterans continue to fight emotional and mental battles and often face barriers to accessing mental health support. For the 4.4 million veterans who live in rural communities, the barriers to mental health services may be even greater.
