About us
RVA Mag is all about community empowerment. How do we do this? By delivering new and innovative ways to tell stories from our city and Commonwealth. In doing so, we give our readers an immersive experience which lives at the intersection of art, music, culture, and politics. And as a digital and print magazine that represents the best and sometimes worst of Richmond and Virginia, we make space for all of our communities to be equally represented in our pages. Given the complex times we live in, this will always remain a priority for us and we take this mission with the utmost seriousness. Since our first issue in 2005, our editorial and design team has created a brand that has become one of the leading cultural ambassadors for the city of Richmond. Our readership has grown to include all parts of the Commonwealth and our social networks continue to stimulate and lead the conversation around the most pressing issues of the day. RVA Mag will continue to be on the forward edge of content creation with outputs that meet a design and editorial standard that is consistent with the same growth and evolution that Richmond has become known for regionally and nationally.

Here we are again Richmond. The city that never hesitates to embrace its vices gears up for Drinksgiving, that sacred Wednesday night before Thanksgiving. It’s a carnival of cheap drinks, questionable decisions, and the bittersweet anticipation of family drama. For those in the trenches of the service industry, it’s not just another night—it’s the Olympics of booze, dubbed Blackout Wednesday. If you’re planning to partake, don’t be a fool—call a Lyft, find a friend, or walk it off. Just don’t drive. Check out our list of our favorite Drinksgiving dive bars here: https://lnkd.in/g9PXpyyT #rva #RichmondVA #nightlife #divebars #drinksgiving

Richmond’s Unsung Hero! Health Brigade Fights For Survival For over half a century, Health Brigade, formerly Fan Free Clinic, has been Richmond’s quiet, unshakable healthcare safety net. No glitz, no glamour, no trophies on the wall. Just care for anyone who walks through their doors, no questions asked. But now, they’re reaching out. An email landed in our inbox the other day—direct, urgent, and honest. They need help. The community’s help. To keep doing the kind of work that doesn’t make headlines but saves lives. And if they’re asking, you know it’s serious. We’re here to spread the word. Check out our coverage here: https://lnkd.in/d-vndW3Q Or visit healthbrigade.org/donate Help them keep fighting. Help them keep showing up for our community. #rva #community #communityhealth #freeclinic #healthcare #CommunityHealth #NonProfits #communitygiving

Forest Hill isn’t the shiny, hyper-curated neighborhood you’ll find in Scott’s Addition. It’s quieter, greener, and unapologetically itself. And it’s exactly where Väsen Brewing Company is setting up its second location, scheduled to open in summer 2025. RVA's R. Anthony Harris met with Väsen’s co-owners, Joseph Darragh and Tony Giordano, at their new spot to talk about why they’re crossing the river and what they’re bringing to the table. Richmond has $3 million up for grabs—money meant to improve the city, boost its neighborhoods, and maybe even change a few lives. But here’s the twist: for once, city hall isn’t the ones calling the shots. Instead, they’re turning to the people, asking a deceptively simple question: what do you want? It’s a bold move, giving the public the reins to decide how to carve up a slice of the city’s capital improvement budget. Think sidewalks that don’t crumble under your feet, bus stops that actually keep you dry, or murals that make you stop and appreciate where you live. The possibilities are endless—or at least as endless as $3 million will allow. Richmond! Come Watch ‘Army of Darkness’ with Us On Monday! On October 28th, at 7 PM, RVA Magazine is celebrating this masterpiece in the best way possible—by screening it in one of the last true Grand Cinema Palaces in the U.S., the Byrd Theater. And we’re raising money to keep this place looking sharp because, let’s face it, once the Byrd Theatre is gone, they’re just gonna build another Starbucks there, and the world doesn’t need more pumpkin spice anything. So get your ass in a seat, buy some popcorn, and let’s keep this place alive. We hope you will join in our support of the Byrd by enjoying classic movies with us — every ticket goes directly to the theater’s preservation. As election day approaches, we noticed a lack of conversation about an overlooked crown jewel of Richmond's cultural landscape - The Arts District. Our founder, R. Anthony Harris, presents some concrete ideas to get the discourse going about how to refresh the area and turn it into a destination. #rva #smallbusiness #RichmondVA #artsandculture #art #culturalinvestment
