    The power of having a great mentor. In 2017 I got sent down to a sales leadership training hosted by the one and only Matt Cameron. Fast forward to 2018 and I was the impact award winner for SaaSy Sales Leadership a global group of leaders all certified and trained by Matt. Fast forward to 2020, the SaaSy alumni and Matt helped me land my job at Gong. Fast forward to 2022 and I’m co teaching for SaaSy on their SDR Manager course that I was once a student of 5 years prior. Fast forward to today when I got Matt’s first book in the mail “Revenue EQ, a book that I got to play a very small piece in helping him create. This mentorship has not only taught me a lot, it’s given me great consulting opportunities, landed me jobs, and given me a lot of great advice and help when I needed it. If you don’t follow Matt, do it. Him and his community are a wealth of knowledge.

    The RevenueEQ book is out today! Fun fact: If you search for it on Amazon the autocorrect will go to 'Revenue' and so the best way to find it is using my name. I have too many people to thank for making this body of work possible, so I wish to express sincere gratitude to the many people who gave an opportunity to a kid from the wrong side of the tracks. From New Zealand to Australia and, most recently, the United States, there has always been someone who would open a door that otherwise may have been closed. I will start by thanking the generous folks who allowed me to interview them for instructive stories that make RevenueEQ principles come alive: Carl Schachter, Tito 🚀 Bohrt Carter Perez, Volney Spalding, Tony Matos, Parker Eide, and Gavin Jones [All of whom have a copy arriving in the next 2 weeks!]   In addition to their direct contributions, I will call out two very special people who truly got my journey started: Barry Hastings was my mentor (and big brother) at my first full-time gig – Hewlett-Packard. Barry (Bazza) showed me how empathy and positive energy will always lead to good things happening. He also taught me that when it comes to expensing lunches, you should give the check to one of your direct reports so that you can rack up a wine bill without it making it to the big boss. Sincere thanks to Ross Hamilton who gave me my first enterprise sales role in 1996 at Wang, and then took me to the mega-deal world of Electronic Data Systems (EDS) to see where the whales live. I am pretty sure Ross didn’t know what to make of the eager kid with a chip on his shoulder who had a full-time sales role, started a food delivery business and did a finance diploma all at the same time (I succeeded at 1/3), and who did a wonderful job of saving me from myself and accommodating the ego that many young people struggle to manage.
