The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has made a significant investment of nearly $250 million into a multistate electric truck charging network along the I-95 freight corridor. This initiative not only supports the transition to zero-emission transportation but also underscores the critical role of collaboration among states, and other stakeholders, to tackle climate change. With the establishment of 24 charging sites and the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 18.6 million metric tons of CO2 by 2050, this project represents a major step forward in creating sustainable infrastructure for electric trucks. The project includes a needed focus on workforce training, particularly for low-income and disadvantaged communities. Movement towards heavy-duty truck electrification requires collaboration between and across sectors. #Collaboration #HeavyTruckElectrification #Freight https://lnkd.in/geRX6ieT

Interesting article regarding the ongoing growth and challenges in #heavyduty commercial battery-electric vehicles (#BEVs) highlighted in ACT Expo / ACT News. Among the challenges described include the need for a robust charging infrastructure, which in turn requires basic interoperability defined through best practices and standards. Much work has and continues to occur in the passenger and light-truck sectors for EV charging; much more work remains to be done in the commercial and heavy-duty sector. The SAE ITC Heavy Duty Charging Consortium plays a crucial role in this journey. By fostering partnerships and sharing best practices, the HDCC is helping to overcome the challenges of charging infrastructure, but more industry participation is needed to lead the way for a cleaner, more efficient future in heavy-duty trucking. News from the Port of Helsingborg in #Sweden where they recently opened a new heavy charging station equipped with 350 kW ultra-fast chargers and is the first in Sweden to offer a booking system specifically for heavy transport. The infrastructure has been coming along for small-medium vehicles; heavy-truck are starting to come online. #HeavyTruckElectrification #HeavyDutyCharging https://lnkd.in/giVvE-zv
The public station for heavy charging at the Port of Helsingborg is fully operational! 🚛⚡ We’re excited to announce that the new charging station is fully operational at our Central Gate. This strategically placed hub is crucial for electrifying heavy transport and marks a significant move towards greener logistics in the region. The station, a vital node for future transport made possible with Öresundskraft and GITO Heavy Charging Solutions, was inaugurated with speeches and a ribbon-cutting ceremony by Gitos CEO Niklas Björkbacka, Anders Östlund, CEO of Öresundskraft, and Christina Argelius, CTO at Port of Helsingborg. A special thanks to Dania Connect AB, which charged their truck on-site, and ÖRESUNDSLINJEN, which invited their Danish partner VIKINGBUS A/S to charge their electric bus! Another highlight was Johan Walther from Höganäs AB, who shared insights into their electrification journey, while our CEO, Bart Steijaert, presented the Port’s long-term strategy towards zero emissions. The station, equipped with 350 kW ultra-fast chargers, supports electric trucks and is the first in Sweden to feature a booking system for heavy transport. We welcome all partners to use the new charging station at the Port of Helsingborg as we drive the future of zero-emission transport. 🌍💡 📸 Johan Lilja #SustainableTransport #GreenEnergy #Electrification #FutureTransport #ChargingStation #PortofHelsingborg #Öresundskraft #GitoHeavyCharging #NetZeroTogether

The HDCC (Heavy Duty Electric Vehicle Charging Consortium) Right Place Right Time! As this linked Transport Topics article points out, a major roadblock to Electric Truck adoption is the lack of chargers and charging standards. Our own Tim Yerdon points out that “The typical standard development process is two to three years with volunteer members in volunteer standard bodies, A consortium can accelerate that time to 12 to 18 months. We cut the time to develop standards in half to allow us to get to industry quicker, It benefits us all to do that and have a common footprint, common language, common technology discussions.” If you would like to be a part of this innovative group, with Navistar Inc, Volvo Trucks North America, Accelera by Cummins, Allison Transmission, contact the HDCC - we've opened its Call for New Member Applications to support the trucking industry movement towards fleet electrification.
