Freedom from Domestic Violence

About us

One in three Texas women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime, but SafeHaven exists to provide freedom. SafeHaven is the only state designated family violence center in Tarrant County. Over our 45+ year history, we’ve never strayed from our mission: to end domestic violence in Tarrant County. Everything we do is with the end goal of providing freedom for survivors of domestic violence. SafeHaven works to end domestic violence in a two-fold manner: 1. Keep victims safe 2. Hold offenders accountable We are here to take care of the most vulnerable, to keep them safe, and to serve them wherever they are on their journey to escape domestic violence. Our services aren’t one-size-fits-all - that’s why we provide robust resources from shelter and transitional housing, to counseling and legal aid. We want to meet survivors where they are. As part of our lifelong mission, we also feel an obligation to bring change across the board - change the distribution of power in relationships, change where the blame lies, and change how the system responds. We will not stop until every woman in Tarrant County feels safe in her relationship.

  • “The weight of everything we’ve experienced this year is overwhelming, but more than anything, I want my children to feel the magic and joy of the holidays—not the fear they used to feel every night in our home.” This is what one mom shared with us recently. Families like hers need safety and peace - especially now during the holidays. But there's good news - today is Giving Tuesday, and your gift will go TWICE as far! Today only, every gift you make will be matched dollar for dollar thanks to a very special Giving Tuesday match from The Morton H. Meyerson Family Foundation. • 🌱 "It was SO much fun!" 🌱 Last week, a few small helpers joined our incredible cook Noli in the shelter garden, and let me tell you—they absolutely loved it! These kiddos worked hard weeding, watering, and gathering veggies, and they couldn’t stop talking about how proud and happy it made them feel. One even said it was relaxing! To top it all off, Noli whipped up a special treat for them after dinner as a reward for their hard work. 💜 Families who come to shelter are often experiencing the worst times of their lives, but moments like this remind us how much joy and healing can happen here. Thank you to everyone who makes these experiences possible for the families staying at SafeHaven!
