AI-driven acoustic resonance platform for respiratory care and management
About us
Samay is on a quest to stop the progression of and ultimately prevent respiratory diseases by empowering patients, caregivers/families and clinicians with high quality and actionable health information at home. Backed by NSF and NIH, we have developed a patented “acoustic resonance” technology that can detect air trapping, an earlier and more sensitive marker of lung dysfunction. This technology has the potential to accurately diagnose and predict deterioration (exacerbations) 4+ days in advance using low-cost, over-the -counter, sensors (100x cheaper).

🫁 A Breath of Fresh Air: Our founder’s Journey to MedTech featured by the world’s largest medical technology trade association, AdvaMed. 👩🏻⚕️ Eight years ago, Maria Artunduaga, MD, MPH, MTM was part of Scientist Mentoring & Diversity Program (SMDP) for MedTech, a program focused on helping underrepresented graduate students to transition into MedTech. She was the only physician of her cohort and the only immigrant from South America at the time, their mentorship provided valuable resources and inspired her to found Samay after realizing there were no founders of color pitching at the MedTech Innovator finals in 2016. 🛫 After overcoming immigration challenges and breaking stereotype barriers, Maria has successfully raised $5.2M, almost 60% in non-dilutive funds, secured 8 patents, tested her Sylvee device in 400+ people and started a partnership with corporate strategic.Let’s celebrate Maria’s incredible journey and the power of innovation! Today is #COPDday. 😮💨 COPD, a chronic lung disease, tragically claims the lives of 3 million people annually. That’s a staggering 6 lives lost every minute. With each COPD exacerbation, the risk of a heart or lung event, hospitalization, and death increases, that was the case of our founder’s grandmother, Sylvia, who died because her exacerbation was diagnosed too late and couldn’t received early intervention. 💙 Imagine the countless of lives we could save if we could have access to early detection and timely access to multidisciplinary care from the initial stages. We could preserve lung function, alleviate the burden on healthcare systems, and ultimately save millions of lives worldwide. 👩🏻💻 That’s our goal, to create hardware and software to improve COPD diagnosis and management regardless of where you are. So far, we’ve have tested the technology in 400+ people with great results! We urge governments and investors to prioritize COPD in their strategic roadmap by funding more innovation in the respiratory space. Today, 2% goes to respiratory diseases, COPD has a low awareness problem, help us change the status quo by sharing this post with your network.
