I wanted to make sure everyone is aware of the UC campaign below to fight back against the proposed NIH cuts--specifically to cap indirect costs to 15%. Typically indirects are funded at approx. 50-70%. As those of us who work in science know, indirects costs are essential funding for research infrastructure, including specialized equipment that many institutions wouldn't able to afford on their own. To say this would be devastating to health research is an understatement. Now is the time to speak up and make noise about what we are willing to tolerate. UC has created a super easy form to fill out that automatically emails your lawmakers. It took me 2 secs to fill out. Here it is ➡️ bit.ly/3CQgwiA I encourage you to spread this across your networks, especially to those who don't work in research and may not realize the impact of these cuts.
Earlier this month, the National Institutes of Health announced a new plan to drastically cut funding for life-saving biomedical research. This funding pays for lab space, equipment, utilities and other critical infrastructure needed for scientific discovery. If allowed to continue, this cut will be crippling to the University of California, the pursuit of science and our nation’s leadership in biomedical innovation. We’re asking Congress to oppose this catastrophic change. Join us by emailing your lawmakers ➡️ https://bit.ly/3CQgwiA
