The SF Symphony, the Musicians of the SF Symphony, & the SF Conservatory of Music present a benefit concert to aid in the recovery from the devastating Los Angeles fires. In this special event, Edwin Outwater conducts musicians from the SF Symphony, SF Symphony Chorus, & SFCM Orchestra—together with pianist Garrick Ohlsson—in a program of works by Copland, Rachmaninoff, & Dvořák. Net proceeds from all ticket sales will be split evenly & donated to two vital organizations providing essential relief services for victims of the Los Angeles fires: Entertainment Community Fund Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles: ReBUILD LA Help make a difference & join us for an inspiring evening that attests to the healing power of music. We are thrilled to have won a 🏆 Grammy Award for Best Opera Recording for Kaija Saariaho’s ‘Adriana Mater’! This Deutsche Grammophon recording, conducted by Music Director Esa-Pekka Salonen, was taken from a staged production by Peter Sellars & features the SF Symphony & Chorus (Jenny Wong, Chorus Director) with soloists Fleur Barron, Axelle Fanyo, Nicholas Phan, & Christopher Purves. It was produced, edited, & mixed by Jason O'Connell. Jon Johannsen & Jason O’Connell were recording engineers; Thomas Adams, Dunning Butler, Ryan Napoli, & Denise Woodward were assistant engineers; & Timo Kurkikangas was additional engineer & mixer. Mark Willsher was the mastering & mixing engineer. This week, he conducted four concerts for thousands of 3rd-5th graders as part of Adventures in Music, the Symphony's free music education program for students in SF’s public elementary schools. And on Saturday, he leads a sci-fi themed Music for Families program, featuring music from John Williams, Debussy, & more. The SF Symphony, in partnership with the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, announces that applications are now open for the fifth annual Emerging Black Composers Project Michael Morgan Prize & the Cabrillo Emerging Black Composers Prize. The competition looks to further identify & promote inventive Black composers, of any music genre, under the age of 35. In celebration of Michael Tilson Thomas’s 80th birthday & his extensive contributions to music, the PENTATONE record label has released 'GRACE: The Music of Michael Tilson Thomas,' a four-disc set spanning more than five decades of MTT's compositional career. It features 18 works, from premiere recordings to remastered archival recordings available for the first time. The deluxe collection also includes a comprehensive booklet containing composer’s notes, original essays, & a timeline of archival photos chronicling MTT’s life as a pianist, conductor, composer, recording artist, & teacher.
