One of our proudest moments from 2024? Rocky Ridge, a stunning 80-acre property conserved by the League, officially transferred to California State Parks—the first such addition to state parks in over a decade. Nestled in Mendocino County, Rocky Ridge is a haven for biodiversity, featuring: - Ancient redwoods and Douglas-firs - Nesting habitat for peregrine falcons - The headwaters of Montgomery Creek, crucial for salmon - By adding Rocky Ridge to Montgomery Woods State Natural Reserve, we’re creating a contiguous habitat for wildlife, buffering ancient trees, and laying the groundwork for expanded trails with breathtaking views. A proud step forward for conservation and public access! What's more: we couldn't have done it without your support.🌲 #Conservation #CaliforniaStateParks #MontgomeryWoods #Mendocino

🕯️As #Kwanzaa celebrations begin, #redwoods remind us of the power of #community and shared values. Just as these trees thrive by connecting their #roots underground, the #NguzoSaba principles—#unity, self-determination, collective work, responsibility, and purpose—help us grow stronger together. 🌲 Kwanzaa is a time to honor heritage, reflect on our shared purpose, and celebrate the beauty of collective strength. May this season bring you peace, joy, and unity. ✨ 📍Montgomery Woods State Natural Reserve 📸William Solow

🌲🕎 As #Hanukkah begins, California's coastal redwood candelabra trees stand as a natural reminder of light, resilience, and miracles. Their menorah-like branches inspire awe, and redwoods symbolize the enduring strength of #nature - much like the story of the Festival of Lights. May this season bring brightness, love, and wonder into your life. ✨ #CandelabraTree #Redwoods #nature 📸 Stephen Leonardi / Pexels CC

The #GeneralGrantTree is a remarkable natural wonder. Standing 267 feet tall with a 33-foot-wide base, this majestic #GiantSequoia is over 3,500 years old and is the world's 2nd largest tree. 🎄It was designated the #NationalChristmasTree in 1926. As a National Shrine, it also honors the sacrifices of those who have served. To many, it’s a symbol of eternal life. Tag someone you’d visit with! 💚 📍 Kings Canyon National Park, California 📸NPS & Boston Public Library, Public Domain

Thank you, CBS News, for highlighting Save the Redwoods League's work to return 125 acres of land to the Yurok Tribe. 🌲✨ CBS News just released a video segment covering the League’s historic transfer of 125 acres back to the Yurok Tribe, featuring exclusive interviews with Save the Redwoods League Chief Program Officer, Paul Ringgold and Yurok Tribal Heritage Preservation Officer and Cultural Resources Director, Rosie Clayburn. Called 'O Rew, this land on Prairie Creek near #Orick is central to #Yurok ancestral territory. This partnership between the Yurok Tribe, Save the Redwoods League, National Park Service, California State Parks, and other collaborators is already driving large-scale salmon and steelhead restoration in the creek. Looking ahead, the Tribe envisions building a cultural center and traditional village on the land that would serve as a new southern gateway to Redwood National and State Parks. A groundbreaking co-management model shaping the future of #conservation! 🌲🐟 Special thanks to: Paul Ringgold, Rosie Clayburn, Charles Sams, and the CBS News team! 📺 Watch the full segment here: https://lnkd.in/exGf5YHW #PrairieCreek #redwoods #native #partnerships #restoration
