There are many reasons that victims stay with abusers including fear, shame, children, disability, and lack of resources. Most survivors identify access to money as a barrier to leaving an abuser. This means that they are forced to stay with abusers for months, even years, before they can afford housing and other essentials. ➡️ Learn more from the National Domestic Violence Hotline: https://loom.ly/cBKLDP4 #SurvivorSafety #SupportSurvivors #EndIPV #EndDV

About us
Who We Are SCCADVASA is the statewide coalition of organizations providing intervention services to victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and Primary Prevention programs to students and communities across the state. Our Work We work towards ending domestic and sexual violence in South Carolina and beyond through engaging individuals and communities in advocacy, collaboration and education. We advocate for the transformative social change that will result in a society free of violence, push for policy changes that support survivors, and provide education and technical assistance to build the capacity of our members, allied organizations and communities to provide trauma-informed and survivor-centered services. Our Hope Our hope is for community in which prevention work is our focus—a commitment to prevent sexual and domestic violence from occurring in the first place—where we can center our work on the building of healthy relationship practices rather than the aftermath of violence. Everyone has the right to live in a community where respect and trust form the core of relationships and fear has no place to thrive.

The most common stalking tactic is repeated unwanted communication but most stalkers use multiple tactics to surveil, contact, sabotage, threaten, and otherwise scare their victims —and their behaviors can escalate from indirect ways of making contact (phone calls or texts) to more direct contact (delivering gifts or showing up where the victim is). Victims can feel constantly monitored and in fear. With domestic and sexual violence service providers still reeling from FY24 cuts to Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) funding, an article in Ms. Magazine examines the devastating impact that a federal funding freeze would have on survivors. Additional reductions in funding would shutter shelters, silence crisis lines, and leave victims with nowhere to turn – leaving many trapped with their abusers. ➡️ Read more: https://loom.ly/vdfFlGw #StandWithSurvivors #SupportSurvivors #EndDV #Advocacy

A study published this month in JAMA Pediatrics and led by Stanford Medicine found that the majority of children killed in U.S. mass shootings lost their lives at the hands of a relative – parents, aunts and uncles, siblings, grandparents, and cousins – during a domestic violence incident. In 40% of the cases, the perpetrator was a parent. ➡️ Learn more about the study: https://loom.ly/ALgu4a0 #EndDV #GunSafety #StandWithSurvivors #SurvivorSafety

It’s a myth that a person cannot be sexually assaulted by their partner or spouse. Rape between married partners is a prevalent form of violence but is largely unreported. It is estimated between 10% and 14% of married women are raped by their partners. Approximately one-third of women report having “unwanted sex” with their partners—primarily due to marital obligation. But sex and intimacy always require consent – even with a partner. If you are a survivor of sexual assault, help is available. Visit sccadvasa.org/get-help to find a local provider near you. #EndSexualAssault #SupportSurvivors #EndIPV

Last week, The Post and Courier Post & Courier spoke with SCCADVASA member organizations across South Carolina about the uncertainty surrounding the recent federal funding freeze and the devastating impact that sustained funding cuts would have on programs providing critical services to domestic and sexual assault survivors. Since 2018, funds from the U.S. Department of Justice Victims of Crime Act (VOCA), the greatest source of support for victim service programs, have been cut by a cumulative 76% nationwide, including a 41% decrease in funding to SC in 2024. Additional reductions in funding would have an alarming impact on the support provided to victims. ➡️ Read the article: https://loom.ly/HpFLo-Y #StandWithSurvivors #SupportSurvivors
