  • As we kick off 2025, it’s the perfect time to reflect on our goals and craft plans for the year ahead. To help in this season of planning, Marshall Goldsmith shares a powerful tool designed to build positive habits and stay focused on what truly matters. This tool is a simple yet effective daily process that Marshall uses himself. It’s efficient, impactful, and keeps your priorities front and center. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸? The process begins by creating a personalized list of questions based on your values and goals. Each question starts with, “Did I do my best to…?” Here are a few examples: Set clear goals? Make progress toward those goals? Build positive relationships? Be a better parent? Every day, you answer these questions with a score or a simple yes/no. The process is quick and practical, making it easy to incorporate into any routine. For added accountability, Marshall recommends sharing your answers with someone who listens daily—a proven strategy that boosts effectiveness. By adopting this habit, you can align your daily actions with your values and make meaningful progress toward your goals. Marshall’s challenge is simple: take a moment to draft questions that reflect what matters most to you in 2025. Let’s make 2025 a year of growth, purpose, and positive change—one question at a time! Tag someone you’d like to share this practice with and start the journey together!

  • FeedForward vs. Feedback When you’re driving, do you spend more time looking in the rear-view mirror or through the windshield? The answer is obvious. Yet, in leadership coaching, we often focus too much on the past (feedback) and not enough on the future (FeedForward). Here’s the difference: 🔄 𝗙𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 focuses on what already happened. While helpful, it often feels critical and can be demotivating. ➡️ 𝗙𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 is about what can happen next. It’s positive, actionable, and future-focused, making it far more effective for growth. Example: 🔄 𝗙𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸: “You’ve been interrupting people in meetings. It’s frustrating.” ➡️ 𝗙𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱: “In our next meeting, try pausing to let others finish their thoughts before responding.” See the difference? One looks backward, the other points the way forward. 𝗙𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 transforms coaching into a motivating, collaborative process. In Stakeholder Centered Coaching®, 𝗙𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 is a cornerstone because it empowers leaders to focus on what they can control: their future actions. Curious about how to use this in your coaching practice? For the past few weeks, we’ve been hosting a free two hour masterclass where we teach coaches how to apply this method and much more. Join one of our upcoming sessions and learn how to incorporate FeedForward into your coaching practice. • Today, during our Learn to Coach Like Marshall Goldsmith session, Brandon James Mergard shared a fascinating real-life coaching experience that perfectly illustrated one of our key topics: 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿-𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸. It may seem counterintuitive to start by discussing limitations, but understanding these scenarios is a cornerstone of effective coaching. Marshall often says, “𝗡𝗼 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗱 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗲-𝘀𝗶𝘇𝗲-𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀-𝗮𝗹𝗹.” This principle came to life through Brandon’s story about a fast-fashion client—a powerful example of the challenges and transformative potential of behavioral coaching. Brandon recounted how a fast fashion brand reached out with a unique challenge. Their VP of supply chain was exceptional—technically brilliant, with a proven track record at leading organizations. In fast fashion, where supply chain is everything, this leader was indispensable. Yet there was a catch: their behavior. The VP had what the company described as "outdated, programmatic habits." While not malicious, their comments and actions sometimes came across as deeply misogynistic, leaving colleagues frustrated or even in tears. This was particularly concerning given the brand’s commitment to a predominantly female leadership team. “Is this person on the way out?” Brandon asked. No. They weren’t a flight risk or underperforming. Quite the opposite. The organization relied on them, but their behavior needed refinement. This case wasn’t easy. Coaching someone with ingrained habits is challenging, but this leader had no ethical violations—no lying, harassment, or misconduct—just behaviors that no longer fit the organization’s culture. That’s where Stakeholder-Centered Coaching shines. By focusing on observable changes in behavior as seen by colleagues, we’ve transformed situations like this into success stories. But if someone doesn’t want to change? Or worse, if they lack integrity? 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆 As coaches, we must choose engagements that bring us joy and fulfillment. We work best with people who want to grow, who raise their hands eagerly for change. Brandon’s story was just one of the many powerful examples shared today. Want to hear more stories like this? Join us for the next 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗟𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗚𝗼𝗹𝗱𝘀𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗵 session on December 12th, from 12 PM to 2 PM Pacific Time. Together, we’ll dive deeper into real-world coaching scenarios and explore how Stakeholder-Centered Coaching transforms lives.
