What is "Institutional Effectiveness?" The formal answer typically takes some variation of: processes--planning, assessing, and analyzing--undertaken to ensure that an institution is effective in meeting its goals and achieving its mission. Say that to someone outside of the IE world and you will not have to wait long for a blank stare . . . which is fair since IE can cover a broad spectrum of activities. Here are a couple of bookends from my recent work: 📘 Needs assessment for the establishment of an out-of-state branch campus | | | | 📗 Climate assessment from the students' point of view; including experiences with inclusive pedagogy and perceptions of personal intercultural competency Whew, there is a lot of ground (or to stay with the bookends metaphor--linear shelf space) between those two projects! No wonder some people have a difficult time understanding what Institutional Effectiveness covers.
