A warm welcome to our new community, "Neurodegenerative Disorders of Aging: Focus on Alzheimer's Disease and Related Proteinopathies"! This community, led by chief editor Dr. Claudia Marino, PhD, aims to explore recent findings on neurodegenerative proteinopathies, from Alzheimer's and frontotemporal lobe dementia to Huntington's disease and other protein misfolding disorders. Dr. Marino holds dual Ph.D.s from the Universidad de Palermo, Italy, and The University of Texas Medical Branch. Over the past five years, she has explored groundbreaking pathways in the fight against Alzheimer's, including studying genetic mutations like RELN-COLBOS and pioneering antibody research targeting Apolipoprotein E—a known risk factor for sporadic Alzheimer's. Join her on this journey of discovery as we bring together leading research to advance potential therapies. #alzheimers #neurodegenerative #aging #medicine #research

A minor test protocol tweak can make a big difference for patients with persistent thyroid issues. Our newest published paper, "A Novel Approach to the Levothyroxine Absorption Test Using Only Two Free T4 Measurements," shows how. Authored by Dr. Carlos A. Builes-Barrera and his team at the Universidad de Antioquia, it introduces a simplified protocol for the levothyroxine absorption test, making it more accessible and efficient. Key insights: ✔ The study defines an optimal FT4 increment cutoff of 0.62 ng/dL at four hours, with 93.1% sensitivity and 100% specificity. ✔ This new approach significantly reduces diagnostic complexity, distinguishing between true malabsorption and pseudo malabsorption. ✔ The protocol cuts down unnecessary testing and enhances patient care. This streamlined method could help refine the clinical assessment of hypothyroidism. 📝 Read the full paper here: https://lnkd.in/dgPMABXg #Endocrinology #Hypothyroidism #Levothyroxine #Research #ClinicalTrials

Dr. Joseph Arboleda-Velasquez's recent MERIT article was featured in the Digital Journal! MERIT is a new peer review framework that redefines standards, prioritizes transparency, and streamlines the review process for a fairer, more efficient system. Read the paper here: https://lnkd.in/d4k6YBtv Read Digital Journal's article here: https://lnkd.in/dYxkbyYz
Very excited to see Digital Journal profile my paper addressing peer review via the MERIT method! Key points from the article: - Peer-review influences funding decisions and career trajectories for researchers, yet it lacks standardized processes and quality benchmarks. MERIT Review fills this gap by offering a unique model for peer review that prioritizes quality, fairness, and efficiency. - MERIT empowers people to publish their peer-reviewed findings anywhere that they see fit. They can get their research distributed via social media or traditional media outlets. Once a paper gets the MERIT stamp of approval it is ready to fly and be distributed by any publisher or by the author or their institution. Joseph Arboleda-Velasquez's latest article, MERIT (Manuscript Evaluation Reflecting Intrinsic Tenets), was featured in Medical Daily! 👇 The pitfalls of peer review are numerous and well-known. It's time we changed that. Read the full paper here: https://lnkd.in/deDpjbBR The full Medical Daily article is here: https://lnkd.in/dq-V55Yz
I’m thrilled to share that my article on MERIT (Manuscript Evaluation Reflecting Intrinsic Tenets), published in ScienceBank, has been featured by Medical Daily! MERIT provides a fresh approach to the peer-review process by empowering authors to take the lead. With this method, not only can researchers have their work evaluated, but they also gain greater control over how their content is distributed. It's time to rethink how we handle academic publishing! https://lnkd.in/eRwWWjsw https://lnkd.in/e_TuDsmN

How can we make peer review fairer and more efficient? 🤔 Our newest published paper, "MERIT: A Framework for Efficient and Equitable Academic Peer Review," answers precisely that question. Authored by a member of our Editorial Board, Joseph Arboleda-Velasquez of Harvard Medical School, Mass. Eye and Ear, Mass General Brigham it explores innovative ways to enhance peer review. Key insights: ✔ The MERIT model introduces the Main Result Justification Sheet to ensure transparency and quality in manuscript contributions. ✔️ The concept “publicon” redefines the minimum standard for advancing knowledge, focusing on intrinsic merit over journal prestige. ✔ The single-iteration review reduces delays, promoting a more inclusive, cooperative peer-review process. This new framework reinvents peer review, aiming for fairness, transparency, and efficiency. 📝 Read the full paper here: https://lnkd.in/deDpjbBR #AcademicPublishing #PeerReview #Research #MERIT #science
