I help people simplify complex ideas into engaging visuals ✍️ | Sustainability & Circular Economy 🌱 | Live Event illustration & Graphic Recording ✏️

There’s a lot of myths about what the circular economy is. No, it’s not recycling. And it’s more than resource efficiency. There’s lots of articles, content, and greenwashing reinforcing these myths. So it’s crucial to acknowledge and amplify what the circular economy is! To create a circular economy we need to: 1) Design out waste and pollution 2) Circulate products and materials (at their highest value) 3) Regenerate nature The DDC – Danish Design Center added another great principle: “We need to redefine a meaningful life with less consumption.” So let’s amplify more facts, and bust more myths. Agree? #circulareconomy #sustainability #climatechange

🔴 The Shocking Reality of Fashion and Textile Waste As someone recently involved in projects tackling this pressing issue, I want to highlight the shocking reality of fashion and textile waste. 👔 The fashion industry, especially fast fashion, is notorious for its staggering environmental impact. Did you know that up to 26% of Europe's textile waste could be recycled by 2030, generating billions in economic output and creating thousands of jobs? Yet, currently, only about 1% of textiles globally are recycled into new clothes. 1%! This low recycling rate is exacerbated by the industry's reliance on cheap, unsustainable materials like polyester, which is derived from fossil fuels and contributes to microplastic pollution in our oceans. 👕 The fashion sector also exploits labor in developing countries, highlighting the ethical issues intertwined with environmental ones. Recent initiatives show promise, such as Worn Again’s new recycling demo plant and partnerships like the one between Eastman and Patagonia, aiming to tackle pre- and post-consumer clothing waste. But it's clear that more collaboration, funding, and stringent policies are needed. 💶 ♻ The EU's call for mandatory recycled fiber content by 2030 is a step in the right direction but lacks the precision and enforcement needed to make a real impact. It's time for the fashion industry to commit to real change. Brands must move beyond token sustainable collections and embrace comprehensive recycling and sustainable production practices. Shoppers can also play a role by demanding transparency and choosing more sustainable options🌍👗 It's time to choose: will we prioritize fleeting fashion trends or commit to sustainable practices that ensure a healthier planet for future generations? 🌍💡 For those interested, check out the latest research and initiatives tackling this issue: 👉https://lnkd.in/eMG-TnWw 👉https://lnkd.in/eTWzyuSW 👉https://lnkd.in/eSUba7JN 👉https://lnkd.in/eXsaT8Tt #SustainableFashion #TextileWaste #CircularEconomy #FastFashion

CEO and Founder THEIA PR. CREATING CONVERSATIONS WITH CHANGE-MAKERS TODAY TO BUILD A FASHION INDUSTRY FIT FOR TOMORROW

T-REX Project in a nutshell. Today, only 2% of post–consumer textiles within Europe are diverted to fibre-to-fibre recycling. Creating a circular system for post-consumer textile waste still faces many challenges, including a lack of standards for collecting and sorting textile waste, inaccurate composition claims, uneven quality of materials, and a lack of reliable data across value chain stakeholders. The T-REX launched in June 2023 with the aim of addressing these challenges by creating a harmonised EU blueprint for closed loop sorting, and recycling of household textile waste. Transforming end-of-use textiles, from waste, into a desired feedstock, and a commodity for new business models that can be adopted at scale. THEIA PR is supporting Fashion for Good in leading all external communications and dissemination for the project. Please find below a short animation video we worked on with Make em Say and Hanna Gavrylova sharing a quick explainer of how the consortium are working together to identify the infrastructure, technology and policy needed to encourage the growth of circular value chains. Follow T-REX Project | Textile Recycling Excellence for key learnings and insights through-out the journey. T-REX Project | Textile Recycling Excellence, in collaboration with fellow EU funded project SCIRT Project is also hosting a webinar exploring the current strategies and anticipated impacts of ESPR at 11.30am CEST today, please sign up via the link below if you’re interested to learn more. https://lnkd.in/eQaHAZft https://lnkd.in/ebrfizfv

Learn how T-REX (Textile Recycling Excellence) Project is developing a blueprint for scaling closed-loop recycling of post-consumer textiles across the EU. Bringing together 13 major players from the entire value chain, this EU-funded project ultimately aims to help the fashion industry transition towards a more circular and sustainable future.
