About us

Rewilding is a simple idea: let's work with nature instead of against it. The Scottish Rewilding Alliance is a collaboration between like-minded organisations who share a mission to enable rewilding at a scale new to Scotland. Our approach embraces working in partnership with landowners, communities, interest groups and government to achieve a shared agenda that shapes the landscape. Our goal is a flourishing ecosystem, supporting self-sustaining nature-based economies which secure a future for local communities.

Updates

  • This year, we’ve been busy reaching out across Scotland to connect with rewilders and others who share our vision of a thriving, nature-rich Scotland. Together, we are working towards Scotland becoming the world’s first Rewilding Nation, committed to restoring nature across 30% of our land and seas. On 30 November, we came together with Critical Mass Edinburgh to celebrate Scotland’s amazing wildlife. Thank you to everyone who joined us - from butterflies and badgers, to deer and red squirrels! We loved your costumes! 🦡 🦌 🐿️ 🦋 Special thanks to Graeme at Hart's Cyclery for transporting our photographer Michael in his cargo bike so we could snap these great photos! 💚 You can still add your voice to the call for Scotland to become a Rewilding Nation. ✍🏼 Sign the Charter at rewild.scot/charter #RideOnTheRewildSide #RewildingNation #rewilding #nature

  • Thank you, Nathan, for supporting the Rewilding Nation Charter. 💚 We hope your message inspires thousands more people to sign the Charter and call on the Scottish Government to commit to restoring nature across 30% of our land and seas. Rewilding can make an immediate and lasting impact on the nature and climate emergencies, as well as bringing a wealth of benefits for people – including jobs, improved health, and clean air and water. We have a golden opportunity for Scotland to lead the way in becoming the first country in the world to be declared a rewilding nation. 🌱 Sign the #RewildingNation Charter today: rewild.scot/charter

  • On 3 December, we presented our pathway to a Rewilding Nation to the Scottish Government - a strong, bold message to the world that Scotland can lead the way in nature recovery. During 2024, we've reached out across Scotland to connect with and campaign alongside rewilders and others who share our vision of a thriving, nature-rich Scotland. Since we first launched the Rewilding Nation Charter, thousands have signed it and shared their messages of hope. 💚 Scotland has the people, places and potential to become a #RewildingNation, and a trailblazer in tackling the biodiversity and climate crises, while creating a cascade of benefits for people and communities. Will you add your voice to ours? Sign the Charter at rewild.scot/charter

  • Hear our Co-Convenor Karen Blackport on BBC Radio Scotland this morning talking about the benefits of a #RewildingNation. 👂 Everything we rely on, whether it’s clean air, fresh food or water, relies on nature. 🦫 Scotland can lead the way as a #RewildingNation, tackling the nature and climate crises, and creating a cascade of benefits for people. 🍃 Add your voice to ours at rewild.scot/charter 📢

  • The Scottish Government’s spending decisions underpin the fate of our land and seas. Last night, we launched our pathway to a #RewildingNation, outlining a clear route to upscaling rewilding across Scotland’s land and seas. Scotland has the people, places and potential to be a trailblazer in reversing collapses in biodiversity, tackling climate breakdown, and creating a cascade of benefits for people and communities. But we need our government to help create a wilder future for Scotland, by: ⬆️Expanding funding for nature restoration 🌱Creating sustainable funding routes for large-scale nature restoration on land and at sea ✅ Supporting farmers, crofters and other land managers to restore nature at scale too 🌳Resourcing local authorities to deliver on ‘nature networks’ Read more on our website: https://lnkd.in/euQf49kr

  • 80% of Scottish people want their government to act in support of rewilding. This is about opportunity and choice – we have the people, places and potential to become a Rewilding Nation, and so be a trailblazer in reversing collapses in biodiversity, tackling climate breakdown, and creating a cascade of benefits for people and communities. Declaring Scotland a Rewilding Nation would be just the beginning. We need a Scottish Government committed to restoring our natural environment through groundbreaking legislation, sustainable funding and a clear vision for the nation. To guide the government’s next steps we have produced a ‘Pathway to a Rewilding Nation’ setting out how ministers can act in support of rewilding. The pathway sets out clear steps to creating a Rewilding Nation. In 2025, we’ll keep growing the rewilding movement, as more and more people and organisations add their voice to ours. We’ll keep reaching out, engaging and campaigning harder than ever as we urge the Scottish Government and Scotland’s political parties to declare Scotland a Rewilding Nation. #RewildingNation #rewilding #biodiversity #naturelovers #nature

  • Rewilding is part of Scotland's story. Across the country, we are embracing its benefits - for people, nature and climate. We now have the opportunity to become a global leader in restoring the natural world. Tens of thousands of people across Scotland have taken part in the Rewilding Nation campaign during 2024 – signing the Rewilding Nation Charter, organising or attending community events, contacting their MSPs, learning about rewilding in school, or watching and sharing the film Why Not Scotland? Tonight we’re in Edinburgh sharing this groundswell of hope with the Scottish Government - and asking them to act in support of rewilding and declare Scotland a Rewilding Nation, committing 30% of our land and seas to nature recovery. #RewildingNation #rewilding #biodiversity #naturelovers #nature

  • 👀 SNEAK PEEK 🗺️ Tonight we'll share our pathway to a #RewildingNation with the Scottish Government, rewilders and stakeholders. 2021 - 2030 is the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration: a global call to prevent, halt and reverse the decline of nature. This is Scotland's opportunity to declare itself the world's first Rewilding Nation, committing to nature recovery across 30% of land and seas - for nature, climate and people. Despite growing praise for its rewilding progress, Scotland is one of the most nature-depleted countries on Earth. We need a government committed to restoring our natural environment through groundbreaking legislation, sustainable funding and a clear vision for the nation. Our pathway will set out clear steps to creating a #RewildingNation. #GenerationRestoration #rewilding #ecosystemrestoration #restorenature

In the right hand lens is a lighthouse on a hill with water in the background. A person can be seen below the lighthouse in silhouette.
  • Tomorrow, we will present our pathway to a Rewilding Nation to the Scottish Government. This will be a route map for creating the world's first #RewildingNation – in more than just name. The nature crisis has huge consequences for Scotland’s wildlife and for us. Scotland’s broken natural processes undermine our ability to cope with climate breakdown, affect food production, and threaten our health. But Scotland can lead the way as a Rewilding Nation, tackling the nature and climate crises, and creating a cascade of benefits for people. The government's spending decisions must underpin this work. On Wednesday, the Scottish Budget will be published. We hope for urgent action to address the nature crisis, including: 🛑 No more cuts to nature funding ✅ Farmers, crofters and other land managers rewarded for their part in ecological restoration 🦫 Local authorities properly resourced to deliver on ‘nature networks’ Read our full statement on this week's budget here: https://lnkd.in/euQf49kr
