Knowing the dangers and taking precautions is critical to safeguarding your health on the job. 🔍 What is Asbestos? A naturally occurring mineral resistant to heat and corrosion, asbestos was widely used in construction materials like insulation, floor tiles, and even vehicle components. While its use decreased in the 1980s, it’s still present in some older buildings and materials. 🚨 Why is it Dangerous? Asbestos fibers are microscopic but can cause significant harm when inhaled. These airborne fibers lodge in lung tissue, causing scarring, reduced lung function, and illnesses like mesothelioma—sometimes decades after exposure. ✔️ Best Practices for Working Around Asbestos: 1️⃣ Recognize materials that may contain asbestos. 2️⃣ Avoid disturbing these materials—no smashing, cutting, or grinding. 3️⃣ Prevent dust creation, and never sweep debris containing potential asbestos. 4️⃣ Report and isolate any damaged asbestos-containing materials for professional abatement. The ABQ BioPark Botanic Garden is growing with the exciting addition of the Mediterranean Garden, and we’ve officially broken ground! 🌿✨ This incredible project will feature: • A 1,035 SF Orangery to house special plants and host private events • Stone walls, terraced planting areas, and a partially enclosed courtyard • A water feature, shade structure, and immersive secret garden • Patio spaces with pots, movable furniture and an outdoor fireplace for cooking demonstrations • Endangered Mediterranean plant species Designed a loop experience with multiple strolling routes, the garden will offer flexible spaces for gathering, relaxing, and exploring. This project blends sustainability, beauty, and functionality, creating a space that inspires and educates.
