This document is designed to provide Clinical Guidelines for the use of Dynamic Seating with clients who have the potential to develop increased postural control and function. #Dynamicseating provides movement within a #wheelchair. When the client moves, the dynamic seating components move with the client, maintaining alignment with the seating system for postural support, skin integrity preservation, and stability. Clients who move against this resistance in a small and controlled range develop increased postural control, particularly trunk and head control, as well as increased function (Lange, et al, 2017; Lange, 2016). https://ow.ly/l9zt50QCp7q

We Make Wheelchairs Better.
About us
We make wheelchairs better. We manufacture add-on dynamic seating components for wheelchairs to enhance movement for users from head to back to foot. Dynamic seating components are used to assist clients with increased muscle tone, absorbing extensor forces that could lead to client injury, equipment breakage, decreased sitting tolerance, increased agitation, decreased function, further increases in extension and quite a bit of energy exertion. It is also used to assist clients who seek out movement and can provide vestibular input, increase alertness, decrease agitation and sometimes increase strength and postural control. Dynamic seating simply put allows movement, a range of motion that a normal wheelchair restricts. By adding a dynamic headrest, dynamic rocker back and dynamic footrests; wheelchairs gain suspension, absorbing energy which may damage the wheelchair. Users who experience violent movements such as extensor tone or sensory seeking behavior may benefit from dynamic components. This may result in calmer tone, improved behavior and an improvement in mental and physical well being as well as an improved quality of life for the user and caregivers.

JOIN US LIVE 12/4 or WATCH ON DEMAND Join #OT Michelle Lange for "Positioning the Head" for #wheelchair users. This course will discuss various strategies to optimize head position. First, we will explore strategies beyond the head support, including specific positioning interventions and addressing visual issues. Second, we will explore posterior head supports in depth, matching specific features to client needs. Third, we will explore other options which may be required if posterior support alone is inadequate, including anterior head support. Fourth, we will explore dynamic options at the head. Case studies will be used throughout. .2 IACET CEUs provided by NRRTS as an authorized provider. https://ow.ly/IRt350U3s0T #PT #OTP #physiotherapist #ATP #OccupationalTherapy #WheelchairPositioning #PhysicalTherapy #AssistiveTechnology

FAQ: Can #DynamicSeating be used on a Power #Wheelchair? Yes! But when is it appropriate? Dynamic Seating can be used successfully on a power wheelchair, though there are unique parameters which must be considered. Let’s take a look at when Dynamic Seating on a power wheelchair is clinically indicated – and not – as well as these other considerations. https://ow.ly/zsei50U3r2q

A #PhysicalTherapist asked me how she could recommend #DynamicSeating components if she didn’t actually try these with a client. Great question! It is not typically realistic to conduct #DynamicSeating trials as one would need to attach Dynamic Seating components on a client’s wheelchair for trial and often the frame would need to be modified (i.e., for Dynamic Rocker Back interface) to accept these components. Instead, clinical reasoning is used to rule out other seating categories and determine if molded seating is indicated. Here are some suggestions for simulating a Dynamic Seating Trial to identify if Dynamic Seating would be appropriate during an evaluation: https://ow.ly/SP1l50U3qB2 #PhysicalTherapy #AssistiveTechnology #OccupationalTherapy

Wow! Check out the difference between when this client's #dynamicseating component is allowed to work vs being locked out. This video shows a Dynamic Rocker Back interface (DRBi) unlatched and latched for comparison. In the latched video, the client is unable to move the dynamic component and so the #wheelchair is not diffusing her forces and is tipping rearward. Seating Dynamics recommends only latching the DRBi for transportation. https://ow.ly/W86z50U3pAs

3 Reasons to Allow the Neck to Extend with the Dynamic Head Support One location dynamic movement can be provided for a #wheelchairuser is at the neck through Dynamic Head Support Hardware. Most #dynamicseating options allow movement into neck extension and then facilitate return to an upright and aligned posture. So when is a dynamic head support clinically indicated? 1. Maintaining Alignment and protecting Hardware 2. Preventing Client Injury 3. Diffusing Overall Force https://ow.ly/IrCx50U3qjL #AssistiveTechnology #PhysicalTherapy #NeckExtension

With her left foot unstrapped from her #wheelchair, Alex demonstrates lower extremity large and forceful movements. The intensity of her movement has damaged her wheelchair and caused her to collide with her chair, bruising her legs. This activity indicates that Dynamic Footrests may help her achieve the movement she needs in a safer fashion. Learn more about Alex and how #DynamicSeating components have helped her. https://ow.ly/6iXH50U3oQh
