This year, over 500 students received Seattle Colleges Scholarships to support their educational journeys at North Seattle College, Seattle Central College, and South Seattle College. They are pursuing programs from carpentry to computer science, and they mirror the many backgrounds and experiences of our diverse community. Over the weekend, we celebrated the strength and hard work of our scholars and the continued support of our community, faculty, and staff at our annual Scholarship Celebration. A highlight of the event was the incredible food from Seattle Colleges alumni chefs Kristi Brown, Khampaeng Panyathong, and Emme Collins, along with desserts from Central’s Culinary Academy students. As we wrap up fall quarter, we’re already gearing up for the next scholarship cycle opening in January. Interested in getting involved? “There is no margin for error. It's zero. The pursuit of excellence, that's the standard in aviation,” says Nydjah, Seattle Colleges Foundation scholarship winner and aspiring rocket scientist. Nydjah’s pursuit of excellence has led her to South Seattle College's aviation program, where she’s working toward an Aviation Maintenance Airframe & Powerplant certificate while completing online courses for a Mechanical Engineering degree. Along the way, she’s made the Dean’s list three times, served as president of the Association for Women in Aviation Maintenance, landed a job at Boeing Headquarters, and completed three NASA internships. A mother of two young boys, Nydjah is already envisioning her graduation in 2026, with her boys in the audience. “I want them to see excellence,” she says. Nydjah’s journey is just getting started. South Seattle College's Georgetown campus is the largest registered apprenticeship training site in Washington, preparing over 3,500 students annually for 70+ careers in skilled trades. Georgetown also offers pre-apprenticeship programs that are a bridge to paid apprenticeship programs for students who may not otherwise have access to skilled trades careers, particularly women, English language learners, and other underrepresented populations. KING 5 stopped by yesterday to check out Georgetown's new food pantry, formed just over a year ago, that serves hundreds of students each week and offers vital support to help them meet their basic needs. KING 5's Home Team Hunger Campaign is calling on the community to donate. Austie sits at Seattle Central College's Wood Technology Center, surrounded by in-progress walls, shelves of lumber, and every kind of construction tool. The space is alive with the sights and sounds of creation, and Austie is loving every moment of it. Winner of a Seattle Colleges Foundation scholarship and carpentry student at the Wood Technology Center, Austie is finding his purpose through his chosen path. What he values most? The process. “It’s not instant gratification,” he says. “It takes time, and we’re learning along the way, moving in a herd. You can see the results take shape.” Austie likens it to his own life journey. “For a long time, I felt ‘unbuilt.’ It’s just piece by piece, you accumulate your experiences.” Read more about how Austie’s journey is unfolding in the latest edition of The College Minute: https://lnkd.in/d-UFvFQb Seattle Colleges Seattle Central College #Carpentry #HandsOnLearning #LifeJourney #BuildingWithPurpose #SeattleCentralCollege

This giving season let's come together to support students like Austie, who shows us that when passion meets purpose, amazing things happen! Austie packed his car and moved to Seattle — and he’s glad he did. He finds it deeply gratifying to work on a team at Seattle Central College's Wood Technology Center, alongside a diverse group of classmates, and to watch a construction project unfold. Austie says he’s long felt a bit “unbuilt” himself but now feels a clearer sense of purpose as he builds a better, more authentic version of himself. His biggest concern? Seattle is expensive, even though he’s working nearly full-time. He says that the Seattle Colleges Foundation’s Stay in the Game scholarship has been a huge help. Austie is set to graduate in March and is eager to use his new carpentry skills to build housing and support Indigenous communities in their efforts toward food sovereignty. By donating to Seattle Colleges initiatives like Stay in the Game, you are addressing the real-world financial challenges that many of our students' face. Give today and invest in students like Austie. Your gift today transforms lives by increasing access to quality, affordable education for all. Thank you, Touch! We're grateful not only for the creative brilliance you bring to each and every shared project, but also the leadership and generosity of this scholarships program. Seattle Colleges Seattle Central College Seattle Central Creative Academy
For the past year, the team at Touch has been reflecting on how to create more equitable opportunities for everyone. In the creative industry, it’s often said that “it’s all about who you know,” but a lack of connections and opportunities makes breaking in difficult for many. We believe it’s our collective responsibility to ensure Seattle’s creative industry reflects the diversity of our community. In partnership with the Seattle Colleges Foundation, we’ve invested over $70,000 to launch the Creative Catalyst Scholarship Fund. This fund will provide flexible support for students in the Seattle Central College Visual Media Program. Additionally, we’re offering a $50,000 match to encourage further contributions. As an agency, we knew we could do more. We’re excited to continue learning from others in Seattle who have found success in supporting students as they enter the creative industry.
