Today’s advice comes from the Barefoot Contessa, Ina Garten. Her new memoir is called, Be Ready When the Luck Happens. I agree with Garten’s advice because careers often benefit from luck, such as being in the right place at the right time. You may get ahead because you’re good at your job, but it could just as easily be a lucky break. Know and appreciate the difference between luck and skill since often they are intertwined. I often counsel people to keep their resumes up to date. That out of the blue email or phone call can change your life- if you’re prepared for it. Here’s something you not realize: Gen Z has surpassed Baby Boomers in the US workforce. 21 million Zoomers are now holding down jobs and presumably “adulting.” Gen Z now represents one third of all hires, making up almost 17% of the US workforce. Zoomers have different attitudes, approaches, and aspirations for work and their careers so your hiring strategies could need realignment to meet this large cohort where they are. #genz #zoomers #hiring

Here’s some up-to-date info on where folks are working. The Bureau of Labor Statistics has reported that 35% of US workers did some or all of their work at home in 2023. That’s trending downward from 2020 when 42% worked from home. Of course, that was during the pandemic. It will be interesting to see how this plays out this year. My sense is more organizations are calling employees back to their offices. #remotework #hybridwork #workplacetrends
