This week we wanted to showcase our Center Break Vee switch. A Center Vee is a two insulator, group operated, side-opening, air-break disconnect switch in a “v” configuration, with two rotating insulators per phase for operation. Center Vees are more commonly used in substation applications because they offer the tightest phase spacing. While not the ideal transmission switch due to their inability to utilize multi-bottle interrupters like the side break or vertical break switches, we do supply phase-over-phase center vee switches for those customers who have systems already designed around their use and can navigate their more limited capabilities. Some of the features and benefits include: small footprint minimizes mounting structure size and cost, no overhead clearance problems, easiest operating of all group operated switches, excellent ice breaking characteristics, and readily adaptable to quick break arcing horns and single bottle loop split vacuum interrupters. This switch type can also have high velocity whips (HVW) installed. If they are 34.5kV or below, a single bottle monotruptr can provide load breaking capability. As we close out the week, we wanted to showcase one of our most popular motor operators, the MNM2. This model runs on in-cabinet DC power and provides local, remote, and automatic operation of switches in distribution, substation, and transmission applications.
