#HostingJournalist #DataCenter Global data center operator Serverfarm and Greeces Independent Power Transmission Operator (IPTO) have announced a strategic collaboration to establish Gemini, a joint venture focused on developing hyperscale-ready data center facilities across Greece.
Under the agreement, Serverfarm and IPTO will combine their respective strengths to build state-of-the-art hyperscale data center campuses in Athens and other key locations. The first facility will be developed in the Greater Athens Area, featuring a committed power capacity of 130MW. This flagship campus will provide the foundation for a robust digital ecosystem, enabling cloud service providers, content delivery networks, and enterprises to operate seamlessly while positioning Athens as a critical digital hub in Southeast Europe.
The collaboration leverages IPTOs deep expertise in managing Greeces electricity transmission network and its role in integrating renewable energy sources into the power grid. With access to reliable, sustainable power and strategic properties, IPTO will provide essential infrastructure to support the data center facilities. Meanwhile, Serverfarm will contribute its extensive experience in designing, developing, and managing hyperscale data centers. Known for its operational excellence, Serverfarms proven track record in sustainable and efficient data center development will be instrumental in executing Geminis vision.
The planned data centers will emphasize energy efficiency and sustainability, aligning with growing industry expectations for environmentally responsible infrastructure. Renewable energy sources and advanced cooling technologies will be integrated to minimize environmental impact while maintaining high-performance standards for hyperscale computing. The initiative supports both domestic and international clients seeking secure, low-latency, and scalable data center solutions.
Avner Papouchado, CEO and Founder of Serverfarm, highlighted Greeces untapped potential in the European data center market. We see a tremendous opportunity to leverage our expertise as leading tech and hyperscale organizations expand into Greece. Our partnership with IPTO furthers our mission to invest in innovative, sustainable infrastructure with long-term value. Greeces strategic location makes it a natural data gateway between continents, yet its data center market remains among the most underserved in Europe. Through Gemini, we aim to unlock this potential and establish Athens as a significant digital and industrial hub, Papouchado said.
