Pro bono legal education and self-help for San Francisco's underserved microbusiness owners
About us
The San Francisco Community Business Law Center (the “BLC”) is an independent all-volunteer pro bono program supporting economic justice by providing preventive legal risk management education and self-help for California microbusiness owners who have no access to competent business lawyers. All of our programs are free of charge to participants and occasional nonprofit partners. We have no affiliation with any for-profit law firm. To create a safe and objective learning environment, we absolutely do not permit ANY marketing, solicitation or referral of paid legal services. While all are welcome, we particularly focus on serving those pursuing microenterprise as a path for overcoming adversity and exclusion, such as: * Women * Immigrants and asylum seekers * DV/SA survivors pursuing economic independence in “break the cycle” recovery programs * Disabled veterans transitioning to civilian life * Individuals recovering from workplace discrimination and retaliation * Older workers transitioning to entrepreneurship later in life All of our preventive business law programs are free of charge, and you may attend as often as you need to. UPDATE: This pro bono initiative is now pivoting into a full-time, more formalized development project. In the coming months, our traditional educational services will continue via new service delivery channels. But, given the rapidly-growing services gap in this sector, merely continuing traditional pro bono legal aid and legal education models is clearly not sustainable. That is why, concurrently, we will be re-visioning pro bono legal risk management education and other support to scale and evolve our services, using ALSP business models and recent advances in legal technology to better serve this population. New web portal coming soon. Stay tuned.
