  • 🚨 Action Alert! 🚨 The #PlowTheSidewalks pilot program has been cut from the city’s budget – it’s time to take action and let your elected officials know that you want this program funded! There are 2 ways that your alderperson needs to hear from you: Call your Alderperson – this is really important, calls are very impactful. Look up your alderperson and their phone number, and we have a call script below that you’re welcome to use. Look up your alder ➡️ bit.ly/MyAlder Send them an email – if you haven't already, we have a tool below that you can use to quickly send them a draft email we've provided, and you can add your own stories and comments about why they need to support funding this now ➡️ bit.ly/FundPTS Call script: My name is _____, I am your constituent living at _____ and I am calling to urge you to support funding the Plow the Sidewalks Pilot Program in this year's budget. I understand that this year's budget is very challenging, and I appreciate you doing everything you can to pass a responsible and balanced budget. However, I must make clear that it is critical to include this pilot program. Cutting this program would not close the deficit. Instead, it perpetuates the continued neglect of the needs of people with disabilities, seniors, parents with children, and beyond to participate in society when it snows. A budget is a statement of values, and as your constituent, I urge you to vote for a budget that  states that our City values people having access to the sidewalk in the winter. Because access to the sidewalk means freedom, opportunity, and equity.

  • Discover how Maryland Department of Transportation is expanding infrastructure, accessibility, and safety through #micromobility in our Mobility Learning Center's in-depth case study, "Navigating the Future: Maryland Department of Transportation’s Support for State Micromobility Programs"! Through an expansion of the Capital Bikeshare program — which has achieved record-breaking e-bike ridership — and the implementation of successful dockless systems in cities like Baltimore, MDOT is creating an environment of reliable, multimodal mobility. The agency has leveraged strategic planning, such as its 2050 Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan, and federal funding opportunities from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to integrate micromobility with transit systems. By prioritizing equity and focusing on accessibility, MDOT is transforming Maryland’s transportation landscape to better serve the state's diverse communities. As you've likely felt, this year's election result has brought uncertainty and concern, putting hard-won progress in equity and climate action at risk. Under the incoming presidential administration, these values will not be a priority, meaning the opportunity to stand together, align our efforts, and build trust in local communities has never been more vital. This #GivingTuesday, we ask for your support to accelerate our work to build a national network that champions equitable, sustainable, and safe transportation for all - and one that outlasts political and institutional support. Over the past decade, SUMC has connected thousands through our summit, published 1,500+ case studies, and assisted 170+ communities. Your support helps us expand this work, equipping communities with the tools they need to drive real, lasting change in mobility, equity, and safety. If you believe in this vision, we ask you to consider supporting our work today, ensuring that progress is not only preserved, but accelerated. Support our work here: https://lnkd.in/g9XU7mrY

  • Bridging the first and last mile gap is essential for equitable transportation, and, in collaboration with Via and the Missouri Department of Transportation, SUMC recently concluded an in-depth study on first-last mile connectivity in the state of Missouri. Examining over 50 transportation programs across the U.S. and developing 15 detailed case studies, the report provides actionable recommendations for Missouri’s transit systems. To learn more about the report's findings, join the report's authors on January 21st to dive into the results at the 2025 Missouri Public Transit Association Education Series.
