Shasta County is a General Law County governed by a 5-member Board of Supervisors, each elected to staggered 4-year terms from geographic districts. Shasta County will become a Charter County on January 1, 2025. The County employs more than 2,000 full–time employees composed of the following departments - Agriculture Commissioner/Sealer of Weights and Measures, Assessor-Recorder, Auditor-Controller, Child Support Services, Clerk of the Board, Community Action Agency/Housing Authority, County Administration Office, County Clerk-Registrar of Voters, County Counsel, District Attorney, Farm Advisor, Health and Human Services Agency, Information Technology, Probation, Public Defender, Public Works, Resource Management, Sheriff-Coroner, Support Services, Treasurer-Tax Collector-Public Administrator, and the Veterans Service Office.
