Happy New Year from the Sheet Metal Institute! 🎉 2024 was an incredible year of growth and achievement. We welcomed Will Thompson as our new Executive Administrator of Training, doubled our number of applicants, and celebrated four of our apprentices placing 2nd and 3rd at the Northwest Regional Apprentice Competition in Dupont, WA. We expanded outreach, attended events like Trades Women Build Nations in New Orleans, hosted the Heavy Metal Summer Experience, updated our website and outreach signage, and grew our social media presence. Thanks to the DeWalt Grow the Trades grant, we’ve continued to invest in the future of our trade. Thank you to everyone who made this year one to remember! These Week 8 apprentices at the Sheet Metal Institute are well into their apprenticeship journey! Check out Nick Bates and Sam Laminen, who are diving into their Rocket Stove projects. For those who might not know, a rocket stove is a super-efficient cooking stove that uses small pieces of wood to create a hot flame while minimizing smoke. They’re perfect for outdoor cooking or even as a backup heat source at home! Once Nick and Sam finish their stoves, they’ll get to take them home and put them to good use. Looking great, guys!
