  • At Shepeard Community Blood Center, we know the importance of resilience. It’s something we see in our donors, our community, and our incredible staff every day. But sometimes, resilience is tested in ways we can’t prepare for—just like it was for Keturah Williams during Hurricane Helene. This is our final story. Keturah, one of our dedicated phlebotomists, faced more than just a storm. As winds howled and rain poured, two massive trees crashed into her home, leaving it in shambles. The damage was so extensive that the entire frame and roof would need to be replaced. Keturah is the proud mother of 3 boys–Carter, Christian, and Caiden–who were thankfully weathering out the storm at their grandmother’s home, safe and sound. The night of the storm, Keturah was with a friend, doing everything she could to prepare for what was to come. Her friend urged her to move out from under the doorway, and within minutes of Keturah moving, the trees fell through the home, right where she was standing. For many, a story like this would be overwhelming, even paralyzing. But not for Keturah. In the aftermath, while managing the chaos of repairing her home and rebuilding the pieces of her life, she continued to show up for her community. Each day, she returned to Shepeard with a smile, offering her steady hands and kind heart to those who came to donate blood. Her dedication is a reminder to us all that even in the darkest of times, there is light to be found in service to others. Keturah’s story isn’t just about surviving a storm—it’s about the strength it takes to keep going when everything around you is falling apart. It’s about finding hope when you least expect it. It’s about the power of community.
