White Box Enterprises have released their 2024 Taylor Fry report, comparing jobs-focused social enterprises with Disability Employment Services (DES), focusing on employee retention, personal income, and cost savings to the government. https://lnkd.in/g3GRk2Qb Such a powerful report showing the significant value to Australia and the disability community of jobs focused social enterprises in creating workplaces that where people who face barriers to work can find economic and social inclusion. But what if we can extrapolate even further and have enterprises that are owned and led by people with disabilities. Enterprises that allow the unique capability and capacity of disabled entrepreneurs to flourish, creating opportunity and employment for people with disabilities. We believe the answer to the disability employment crises is a combination of DES, Jobs focused social enterprises and Disability owned and led enterprises. Together we create social and economic inclusion. #Disability #Inclusion #PwD #DES #SocialEnterprise #Equity #NDIS #Outcomes #ShhitHappens #WDEN

People and companies choosing to buy from disability owned and led businesses promotes true inclusion.
Another important statistic to recognise: Less than 1% of companies in Australia incorporate disability led businesses into their supply chain. We change this, we move the dial for the disability community.
-
Some simple actions can shift the dial for both women and disability
Less than 1% of global procurement spend goes to #womenownedbusinesses. Starting to bridge the gap through #supplierdiversity and promoting the business case for buying #WomenOwned only takes 5 simple actions. Together, let’s take a step forward to create a world in which women have the same opportunity as their male counterparts to design and implement business solutions that create wealth and ensure the sustainable prosperity of their communities. #buywomenowned #inclusivebusiness #sdg5 #sdg12 WEConnect International

Matt Davey shares his journey with us, as an entrepreneur with a disability as well one of his SHH!T Happens moment. “A SHH!T Happens moment was navigating what it was meaning for me to live with a disability and other people putting me in a box” We sat down with Matt Davey a brain cancer survivor who now lives with epilepsy. Matt discusses navigating what it means to live with a disability and the barriers he has faced in his career. He has gone on to become an entrepreneur and has founded a healthtech startup call Mend, Mend is designed to try and change the patient experience for people that live with cancer and chronic illness, created from his lived experience and engaging with the broader community. Thank you for sitting down with the Shh!t Happens team and telling us your story Matt.
