[NEWS] England short-term lets registration scheme to go live “very soon” Chris Bryant MP, minister of state for media, tourism, and creative industries, has confirmed that a statutory short-term lets registration scheme in England is set to come into force “very soon.” 🇬🇧 The scheme, launching later this year, will require landlords and property owners to register key details like property addresses, contact info, total annual nights stayed, and compliance with safety standards. Listings on platforms like Airbnb and Booking.com must include registration reference numbers. Aimed at creating a level playing field, the initiative aligns short-term lets with the quality standards of hotels and B&Bs. The government is also working on a new planning class for short-term lets and stronger enforcement powers for local authorities. “This will support a strong visitor economy without undermining local housing strategies,” said Bryant.
