💡 PAPER TITLE: The Role of Dynamic Lighting in Two Iconic Milanese Sites Lighting in architecture transcends the mere function of illuminating spaces, it changes - guiding visitors through their journey. Much like in theatre, it creates different scenes evoking emotions and memory. This session will explore the lighting of two iconic sites in Milan, the Cathedral and the Shoah Memorial. 💡 ABOUT THE SPEAKER: An architect and lighting designer with over 15 years of experience, Marco Miglioli initially trained in theatre, with the relationship between light and built space now central to his interests. Marco constantly blends his passion for theatre, art and architecture and is founder of the studio Marco Miglioli ArchiLight Studio. 💡 PAPER TITLE: Though Dusk into Darkness Simon Corder will present some musings on design practice, working with daylight becoming night, the natural marriage of set and lighting design, long-throw follow spots, and not being fully in control…using his work at the Hedeland Arena in Denmark as an example. 💡 ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Simon Corder has completed more than 400 projects internationally over the past 40 or so years. His practice embraces lighting for performance, set & production design, light art, and zoo design. He has worked extensively as a lighting designer and scenographer in opera, site-specific performance, theatre, music theatre, and dance. Simon created lighting for the first night-time zoo in the world, which opened in 1994 - since visited by over 25million people. 💡 PAPER TITLE: The Power of Light – Myth and Manipulation Anne Militello will examine how lighting techniques used today to stir emotional reactions, date back centuries to when man first incorporated light into ritual. From narratives based in mythology and science, these techniques were later adapted with technology to induce awe, ecstasy and fear as a more efficient way to exert power and control. 💡 ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Anne Militello is a veteran lighting designer and professor at CalArts. She has received critical acclaim for her work in theatre, concerts, themed architecture and light art installations. She frequently lectures about light and design and heads the Masters Lighting Program at CalArts.
