"HOW you talk about what you do is as important as WHAT you do." Insightful words from Debby Stone! Understanding the value that you contribute and being able to express it well to others is really a wise investment that we make in ourselves...and a gift that we give to others. When the value that you contribute is clear, then the opportunities to make a difference just keep on increasing. That's good for your career AND good for the organizations that you're part of. That's why Debby and I created the CRAFTING YOUR MEMORABLE CAREER STORY....to make sure that others see your unique talent and provide you with the opportunity to make a difference in a way that only you can do. For more information on the program and to see if it's a good fit for you, see https://lnkd.in/ex2qtTKC. #influence #personalbranding #promotion #networking #onlinecourse #selfpromotion #careercoaching

“This program is an investment in the recognition that my career and work deserve.” That quote is from a pharmaceutical executive who is enrolled in the upcoming CRAFTING YOUR MEMORABLE CAREER STORY program. https://lnkd.in/efJqkJ5V. She has a set of skills that are unique and valuable. Now she wants to be sure that others recognize that too. Why do I care? Well yes, I’m a leadership coach, not a search or career consultant. But helping my talented clients be recognized for the unique value they contribute is ALSO one of my passions. And now I want to make sure that type of support is available more broadly to talented people at ALL levels. I've partnered with Debby Stone, author of The Art of Self-Promotion, to create an innovative online program that allows you to craft your OWN memorable career story. It's the same approach we've used successfully when coaching our CEO and senior management clients...just turned into a simple, step-by-step process that includes templates and real-life examples, as well as guidance and support from myself and Debby. If you enroll now, you can start 2025 ready to express your own unique value, along with the sense of confidence that readiness brings. It's an investment in your career that you'll be glad you made. Not only will you develop your own compelling story. You'll also have learned a process that you can use over and over again during your career. We look forward to you joining us for the next session of CRAFTING YOUR MEMORABLE CAREER STORY! Yes, navigating a major transition like a corporate reorganization can be hard on a team. And that challenge doesn’t simply go away by explaining that the reorg is well worth doing. But we also forget that getting overly focused on morale doesn’t help either. In fact, our efforts to empathize as leaders can sometimes inadvertently ERODE morale. Instead, what our team needs and wants from us is the ability to feel RESILIENT…to feel energized, capable, and not overwhelmed by the journey of change that we’re navigating. We CAN instill that resiliency in our team. All it takes is clarity about the role we are playing and a good understanding of how we communicate and show up to the team. So how do you do that? Join us in Episode 46 of Mastering The Power Skills to learn more about the role of a guide during transitions, as well as specific suggestions on how to execute that role well. https://lnkd.in/eWwfyqSw. Because a team that pulls together and supports each other during times of significant change not only navigates transitions well. It becomes a stronger team in ALL settings. #leadership #changemanagement #influence #persuasion

When we’re leading our team through a major transition, I personally believe that that we can get over-fixated on morale. Now, don’t get me wrong! Morale should be on our radar screen, along with a lot of other things. But the teams that pull together and thrive during a transition have something more than just good morale. They have RESILIENCY and the energy and sense of direction that comes with that. As a leader, you can INSTILL that resiliency in your team. And it starts with framing your role as a guide vs simply as an advocate for change. What I love about acting as a GUIDE as a leader is that it acknowledges the obvious—that transitions aren’t always easy or predictable---but in a way that makes a team feel supported and resourceful. When you do THAT, you are solving the morale problem. People who feel supported, resourceful, and resilient don’t have morale problems. They just don’t. Instead, they feel energized and capable even though the road ahead might be tough.

Quick...can you express your unique value right now? If that answer didn't come easily to you, you're not alone. Thinking about how to express our unique value is something we all often put off doing. But what if you could start 2025 with that level of confidence and ease? You'd be ready at ANY time for promotion discussions, job interviews, networking, phone calls from reporters or search professionals...any time that you needed to engage the interest of others in the story of you and the unique value that you add. For more details and to enroll in the program, you can find out more here: https://lnkd.in/e_hkMc_D. Getting three top-tier leaders to share their favorite strategies for influence and persuasion makes this one my favorite episodes of the MASTERING THE POWER SKILLS podcast. @Claire Hart, currently CLO at AI chip maker Groq, and formerly of Google and Blizzard. @Lynne Oldham, currently Chief People Office at Stash and former Chief People Officer at Zoom during the hyper-growth period of the pandemic. And @Jim Arnold, currently playing COO roles in the insurance sector, and a former GC at Markel Specialties and Castrol/BP. All of them might have cut their teeth as functional leaders. But each of them has been so good at earning trust and credibility outside their functions that they’ve often been pulled into operational roles. And their advice is equally powerful for those of us on the operational side. Why is that? Well, think about it…. Functional leaders face a much tougher challenge in getting a seat at the table when the important decisions are being made. They also often are advocating for ideas and initiatives that might be seen as unnecessary or inconvenient to those on the business side. You have to be a rockstar at influence and persuasion to be a highly successful functional leader. This episode is a veritable masterclass in how to earn trust and credibility you need to win support for your ideas and initiatives…so don’t miss it! And @Jim Arnold, currently playing COO roles in the insurance sector, and a former GC at Markel Specialties and Castrol/BP. It’s a pretty simple proposition, right? But how many of us actually know how to do that well? In Episode 44 of Mastering The Power Skills, you’ll learn just how to do that…along with illustrations that will make it all crystal-clear for you. Not only that, but you’ll learn (1) why thinking creatively increases your chances of winning approval and (2) a simple but cool persuasion technique that will make decision-makers lean in to hear more from you when you pitch them on your budget proposals. Make sure you’re well-equipped for the upcoming budget season by listening to Episode 44: Don’t Forget These 3 Things During Budget Season on Apple, Spotify, or right here https://lnkd.in/enbyxr8r #persuasion #budget #budgeting

What if THIS was the year that your proposals for next year’s budget weren’t cut? When decision-makers actually lean forward and want to hear more? If there’s one season that’s common to EVERY corporation, it’s budget season. In a large, complex organization, budget season is an annual event, and it can last for months and months. And for a lot of those organizations, budget season is starting right around now. BEFORE budget season starts, you’re thinking about all the resources you need for the next year and all the initiatives you want to undertake. And DURING budget season, you have to JUSTIFY why the expense for those resources or for those initiatives should be included in the budget. In fact, you may have to do that repeatedly at higher and higher levels of financial decision-making. Last summer, I did an episode on the process of getting budget approval that was very well received. In fact, we won a lot of new listeners and inquiries for support based on that episode. That’s not only a nice validation of the advice in that episode…..it’s a strong confirmation of the fact that budget season can be an extremely stressful time when you can feel that the deck is stacked against you. This year, I decided to improve upon the advice from last year. I’m repeating 2 of the tips I gave in that earlier episode, but I’ve also added 1 more. These are ALL very effective ways of gaining more credibility during budget season and increasing the odds that you’ll be successful in pitching for initiatives and resources you need for you and your team in 2025. And YET all 3 of these tips are commonly overlooked or forgotten by many leaders…even leaders at the very top! So not only will you become more persuasive if you incorporate these approaches. You are also more likely to stand out in a GOOD way. You’ll be perceived as having greater leadership presence…..whether you win approval for your budget pitch or not. Join us in Episode 44: Don’t Forget These 3 Things During Budget Season either here https://lnkd.in/enbyxr8r or on Apple or Spotify. #persuasion #budget #budgeting
