  • Fun fact: Fingerspelling — the manual alphabet for Deaf communication — was invented by a hearing person. According to preserved historical records, fingerspelling was used in the Middle Ages by monks who had taken a vow of silence for nonverbal communication. Later, a Spaniard named Pedro Ponce de León created the Spanish manual alphabet specifically to teach Deaf individuals. Do you know when fingerspelling is used? #SignLanguage #Fingerspelling #DeafAwareness #InclusiveCommunication #DeafCulture #Linguistics #LanguageLearning #EduTech #HistoryOfLanguage #FunFact #SignOnSpot #DeafEducation

  • 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗮 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗳 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻’𝘀 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻? Here are a few tips to make sure you don’t accidentally scare someone: 📌 Wave your hand People usually wave up and down, not side to side as we’re used to. Just don’t do it too close to their face. 📌 Flash the lights or use your phone’s flashlight 📌 Tap on a table or stomp on the floor Deaf people usually have more sensitive touch and can feel vibrations through their skin and bones. But this works best on wooden floors or furniture, like a table. 📌 Gently tap their arm above the elbow or touch their shoulder if they’re nearby. 📌 If you’re sitting next to them, you can lightly touch the upper part of their leg. #deafworld #deaf #deafcommunity #deafculture #deafawareness #signlanguage #deafpeople #deafeducation

  • 𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝗪𝗮𝘀 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗲𝘀-𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗹 𝗱𝗲 𝗹'𝗘𝗽𝗲𝗲? A visionary who, in the 18th century, opened the door to education for Deaf children. De l'Épée founded the first public school for the Deaf in Paris and developed a system of signs based on gestures already used by the Deaf community. This system became the foundation for the development of French Sign Language (LSF). His idea was nothing short of 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆: 𝙳̲𝚎̲𝚊̲𝚏̲ ̲𝚙̲𝚎̲𝚘̲𝚙̲𝚕̲𝚎̲ ̲𝚑̲𝚊̲𝚟̲𝚎̲ ̲𝚝̲𝚑̲𝚎̲ ̲𝚛̲𝚒̲𝚐̲𝚑̲𝚝̲ ̲𝚝̲𝚘̲ ̲𝚕̲𝚎̲𝚊̲𝚛̲𝚗̲,̲ ̲𝚐̲𝚛̲𝚘̲𝚠̲,̲ ̲𝚊̲𝚗̲𝚍̲ ̲𝚏̲𝚞̲𝚕̲𝚕̲𝚢̲ ̲𝚙̲𝚊̲𝚛̲𝚝̲𝚒̲𝚌̲𝚒̲𝚙̲𝚊̲𝚝̲𝚎̲ ̲𝚒̲𝚗̲ ̲𝚜̲𝚘̲𝚌̲𝚒̲𝚎̲𝚝̲𝚢̲.̲ His work inspired the creation of educational systems for the Deaf around the world, laying the groundwork for modern approaches that we continue to refine and expand today. We draw inspiration from his legacy as we work to make sign language more accessible through our project, SignOnSpot. From Idea to Results: How SignOnSpot Became a Handitech Trophy Finalist 😏 ✨We’re thrilled to share some exciting news: SignOnSpot has become a finalist in the Handitech Trophy 2024 — an annual competition in France dedicated to innovative technologies for people with disabilities! Out of 188 projects, only 18 finalists were selected, and we’re proud to be among them. For us, this competition was proof that hard work leads to real progress. While we didn’t win this year, last year we applied with just an idea and we didn’t even make it through the first stage. This time, thanks to hard work and determination, we made it to the finals — and that already feels like a major achievement! 😌 During the ceremony, we came up with a sign name for SignOnSpot together with interpreters and our professor Émi. This is an important step, as a sign name makes our project more recognizable within the Deaf community. 🙌 This experience has shown us that we’re on the right path — and this is just the beginning. Thank you, Handitech Trophy, for this amazing opportunity! 💬 Let’s continue breaking barriers together! Share your experiences with social projects — what should we focus on next? #HanditechTrophy #LSF #StartupFrance
