About us
SIL is a global, faith-based nonprofit that works with local communities around the world to develop language solutions that expand their possibilities for a better life. As of 2023, we are involved in approximately 1,420 active language projects in 105 countries. These projects impact more than 855 million people. SIL’s work brings together more than 4,340 staff from 87 countries who work alongside thousands more local partners and community volunteers worldwide. Our services are available without regard to religious belief, political ideology, gender, race or ethnic background. Our Vision: We long to see people flourishing in community using the languages they value most. Our Mission: Inspired by God’s love, we advocate, build capacity, and work with local communities to apply language expertise that advances meaningful development, education, and engagement with Scripture.

We're excited to celebrate the recent completion of Bibles in several languages, now proudly added to the shelves of the world's 7,000+ languages at the Museum of the Bible! 🎉 The exhibit features displays of both completed and ongoing Bible translations, with empty spaces highlighting the languages still without a Bible. After many years of dreaming, two translation consultants traveled from their home countries to Washington D.C. for this special occasion. We're truly grateful to have been part of their incredible journey and to contribute to their translation efforts.
