As we continue celebrating Black History Month, we’re proud to spotlight Marcia T. Clark, who joined the accounting team as a Controller last year. ❓ Can you tell us about yourself and your role at Silverstein Properties? 🔵 I am a lifelong resident of New Jersey and have been in Commercial Real Estate Accounting for over 25 years. Throughout my career, I have worked for three of the largest real estate firms in New York City across third-party management, privately owned, and publicly traded sectors. I have held mid- to senior-level management positions, overseeing financial transactions and reporting for commercial property accounting departments. At Silverstein Properties, I am responsible for overseeing the financial transactions for 3 World Trade Center, 4 World Trade Center, and 55 Broad Street. ❓ What does Black History Month mean to you personally? 🔵 To me, Black History Month is a time to remember and reflect upon the significant contributions that people from the African diaspora have made to our country. Black Americans make up only about 12.5% of the U.S. population and Black History Month provides an opportunity for those who may not have learned about these contributions in school or engaged with Black communities to gain a deeper understanding of our rich history. It highlights the achievements of inventors, scholars, scientists, and pioneers who are often overlooked in mainstream education. Black History Month also encourages reflection, dialogue, and a renewed commitment to equality and justice. (full interview on Facebook)

In celebration of Black History Month, we honor the contributions and achievements of Black individuals within our company and beyond. At Silverstein, we’re proud to celebrate Black excellence and continue our journey toward a more inclusive future. Our spotlight is Camille Thomas, who joined us in September 2024 as Human Resources Coordinator. Camille has quickly become an invaluable member of our team, and we’re excited to highlight her contributions and the positive impact she continues to make ❓ Can you tell us about yourself and your role at Silverstein Properties? 🔵 I have worked in real estate for approximately seven years. I started as an Administrative Assistant and advanced through several roles, including Landlord Liaison/Housing Inspector, Recertification Specialist, and Assistant Community Manager. I now serve as the HR Coordinator at Silverstein Properties, and I love my role. Everyone has made me feel welcome, and I am grateful for this opportunity. ❓ Why do you think celebrating Black History Month is important? 🔵 Celebrating Black History Month is essential because it acknowledges the struggles we have faced—and continue to face—that have shaped our progress today. This month provides a space to honor and embrace African American culture, recognizing our contributions to society, our history, and the resilience that has allowed us to overcome countless obstacles. It is a time for learning, reflection, and appreciation of how far we have come and the work that still lies ahead. ❓ What does Black History Month mean to you personally? 🔵 Black History Month is a time for self-awareness, reflection, and celebration of greatness. It has always been my favorite month, as it highlights the struggles faced not only as an African American but also as an African American woman. It acknowledges the challenges we have overcome to have our voices heard and the progress we have made in corporate America. I commend the women who have fought—and continue to fight—for our rights. Our resilience reassures me and inspires me to become a better woman and a stronger role model for my daughter. (full interview on Facebook)

Yes, the presidency of Barack Obama was a pivotal moment for me. I was 18 years old, and it was my first time voting—I was incredibly proud to take part in his election. Seeing him, alongside his family, step into leadership as the first African American President of the United States was profoundly inspiring. It remains one of the most memorable and meaningful experiences of my life. ❓ What inspired you to pursue your current career path? 🔵 I have always enjoyed working with others, solving problems, and making an impact in the workplace. I enjoy trying to find ways to incorporate everyone, implement policies and procedures, and find out what others think can help implement positive change. (full interview on Facebook)

It's hard to believe it's been 45 years! 1980 was truly a landmark year for Silverstein. It was the year we acquired both of our "120s" - aka 120 Wall Street and 120 Broadway. Both buildings became staple properties in our portfolio and received extensive renovations and capital improvements to turn these historic icons into modern workplaces.
