  • We’re passed the year end wrap up, but we’ll never pass up a moment to express our sincere gratitude to our dedicated public library staff. They work tirelessly throughout the year to provide a vital community resource, from assisting patrons with research to organizing engaging programs for all ages. We are incredibly thankful for their commitment to serving our community and fostering a love of learning.

  • Meet Prairie West customer, Geme! 👋 He has been a proud Siouxland Libraries cardholder for two years. Some of his favorite library services are our book collection and our study rooms. When asked what he loved about Siouxland Libraries, he said he had no words for how grateful he is to have the library in the neighborhood. He appreciates how Siouxland Libraries and Prairie West provide somewhere to go in any kind of weather, computers and Wi-Fi to apply for jobs, and a welcoming space for everyone. 💚

  • Siouxland Libraries is heartbroken to announce the passing of our coworker and friend, Brian Borden, on November 27. You may recognize him from his time at the Downtown, Prairie West, or most recently, Oak View branch, or as a talented puppeteer. He had a great smile and a big laugh. Some of his favorite things to do at work included finding wonderful picture books to share at storytime, leading the after-school crowd in a rousing game of four corners or Wii, and curating our DVD collection. Because of his deep knowledge of film and television, he created a wonderful selection for us. Some of his other many passions were superheroes (especially Superman and Batman), game shows, WWE, and Funko Pops. When he found customers and coworkers who enjoyed comics and film, he made sure to let them know about the latest releases that they might enjoy. That is just one example of how thoughtful, kind, and loving Brian was, and he will be greatly missed by all of us at Siouxland Libraries.

  • We had a fantastic time reconnecting and recharging at our recent fall staff in-service! 📚✨ It was inspiring to reflect on our library’s rich history and discuss how we can continue to innovate and serve our community. Our Director Jodi Fick and Branch Librarian James Borchert captivated us with fascinating insights into the evolution of our public libraries in Sioux Falls and Minnehaha County. We prioritized both physical and emotional well-being during our in-service. Wellness Specialist Lindsey Mossman, MS, CSCS inspired us to incorporate fitness into our daily routines, sharing practical tips for staying active and healthy. Additionally, our Assistant Director Daniel Neeves and Associate Leah Tanis emphasized the significance of providing exceptional hospitality. We couldn’t be prouder of the care in how Siouxland staff meet our customers, and the hospitality training reminded us of the importance of the library’s impact through each of our interactions. There is power in early literacy! Our Senior Librarian Aldijana Bonander and Programming Librarian Neliesha Daws highlighted the crucial role libraries play in fostering a love of reading and learning in young children. Reading, writing, talking, singing, and playing with our little ones is as crucial as it is fun. We're excited to carry this momentum into the future and continue striving to positively impact our communities. #library #staffdevelopment #innovation #community #earlyliteracy #wellness

Today my child dressed up as a librarian for school as apart of a school wide dress up day. Seeing her excitement reminded me of the impact our local librarians have - not only on her but for all the children in our community. Thank you Siouxland Libraries for inspiring curiosity, fostering a love for learning and making a difference in our lives! (And yes I may have attempted a ‘logo’ for her outfit…it wasn’t exactly award-winning but I never claim to be a graphic designer or artist!)
