We're excited to announce the start of the two-week retreat that will transform our volunteers, right here, on the beautiful campus of Saint John's Abbey and University. After four years of their own kind of chaos but expanding study, Benedictine Volunteers are settling down for a spell of reflection, community service, and spiritual growth. These extraordinary individuals stay on campus after graduation, stay with the monastic community, and live according to the rhythms of monastic life—integrated fully into the community. It is a time for them to get away, recharge, and be ready for the next step in their lives by giving back to the place that has done so much for them. Volunteers invest time in taking care of Abbey Woodworking and the Arboretum, assisting with University Custodial work, and various facets of the campus. Such time is important in service and learning skills like patience, stewardship, and partnership. Here's to two weeks of growth, service, and community! Thanks to Joseph Pieschel for capturing our annual BVC brunch with the monastic community, volunteers, and their families.

🌍 Celebrating National Volunteer Week: Spotlight on Alfajiri and Our Volunteers in Nairobi, Kenya 🌍 In the heart of Nairobi, a heartwarming mission unfolds through Alfajiri, a dedicated non-profit striving to change the lives of homeless children. These children, numbering around 60,000, face unimaginable hardships—from surviving the streets due to the loss of parents or abuse to being viewed negatively by the community. Trenton Dodds, Matthew Anderson, Hayden Hedrington, and Jacob Lipke—our selfless Benedictine Volunteers, have spent the last 8 months engaging with these children at Alfajiri and are committed to raising awareness and funds to support Alfajiri’s critical work. 🎨 Through art-based interventions, Alfajiri helps these children escape the streets and embrace the promise of education. They provide essential needs like food, clothing, and educational support, and have successfully helped hundreds of children find hope away from street life and destitution. 🤝 How You Can Help: $1 feeds a child for a day. $10 provides new clothes and shoes. $40 covers lodging for a month. $60 supports a college student’s monthly food and lodging needs. $150 covers a semester's primary school fees including books and meals. Every dollar makes a significant difference in Kenya, stretching far to create opportunities and nurture dreams. If you believe in transforming lives and giving hope, please consider making a donation to support Alfajiri’s continued mission. Share their story and help amplify their impact. ➡️ https://gofund.me/830d5cb5 ⬅️ Let's unite in support during #NationalVolunteerWeek and bring positive changes to the lives of children who need it most. Also, if you have some time today, please watch the new documentary on Alfajiri to get a full insight on the day to day at this program: #Alfajiri #ArtRehabilitation #EducationForAll
