BIG #EIA UPDATE - Ireland’s EIA Conference, 6 March 2025 The conference agenda is developing nicely with speakers including Paul Scott, Jo Wotton, Elaine Dromey and Caroline Donnelly plus confirmation that both Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage and Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications will be presenting on the day. BUT that is not the big #EIA Update I have to share with you today... In this the season of giving, I am very pleased to announce that Ireland’s EIA Conference 2025 will be free to attend for all registrants - made possible by the support of our conference partners Green Tech Skillnet and the Skillnet Offshore Wind Academy. Places will be limited, we are hoping to see around 120 of you on the day. So in order to attend you will be required to be both registered and involved with EIA practice in Ireland. You’ll have to wait until the New Year to sign-up, with conference’s registration planned to open in the week commencing 13 January 2025. Our final guest speaker for Friday's Wind Industry Taster -Cork event is Captain Brian FitzGerald. Brian is Community Liaison Officer, for the South Coast Designated Maritime Area Plan (DMAP) at the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications. In recent years Brian has worked as the Director of External Affairs at Simply Blue Group; been a member of the Seafood/ORE Working Group; and he remains a driving force behind Ireland’s Annual National Maritime College of Ireland (NMCI) Seafarers’ Conference. Before working in offshore renewable energy, Brian served a full career in the Naval Service including two periods as a ship’s Captain, as a senior lecturer at the NMCI, and ultimately as the Officer Commanding Naval Operations. In 2017 he completed a successful deployment to the Mediterranean Sea as part of Europe’s response to the humanitarian crisis taking place there. He has been involved in several high-profile drugs interdictions, coordinated the at sea element of the search and recovery operation surrounding the tragic loss of the Irish Coastguard Helicopter Rescue 116 off the Mayo coast in 2017, and served with the United Nations in Western Sahara. Brian holds Master’s degrees in Marine and Maritime Law (University College Cork), and Leadership, Management and Defence Studies (NUIM), a degree in Law (UCC), and a diploma in Public Relations (PRII) in addition to his Naval qualifications. Brian lectures in law at UCC, is a certified workplace and family law Mediator (MII) and a member of the Board of the Charity GOAL, and of Cork’s Chamber of Commerce. He is also the Deputy President of Cork Constitution F.C.
