Yesterday, the final Smart Cities Council event of the year brought reflections on the challenges ahead in 2025. Grateful to be part of the SCC community as we celebrated a year of progress and innovation, that was a reminder of the power of (our) community. Together, we exchanged knowledge and showcased how education and technology are tools for building inclusive cities that truly work for everyone. Hearing stories of impact from across the globe reinforced the urgency of making smart city solutions accessible and effective. In 2025, my focus with Birkbeck, University of London will be on exploring how technology can address migration challenges, foster social cohesion, and ensure equal access to urban opportunities. Inclusivity is the foundation for systems that thrive, and a happy city is indeed a social city! Today I'm especially happy as we are presenting a project that we have been working on for a while - a collaboration between afkar collective and the Cátedra Manuel Ballbé - Seguridad Humana y Derecho Global from my alma mater, the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, UAB - Facultat de Dret. This project aims to explore intersectionality from an eco-systemic approach. Today we are unveiling the cover for January 2025 - we're getting ahead of the curve once again! Each month, we'll dive deeper into various topics, with the next one focusing on art pieces and historical artifacts stolen during wars and conflicts, and how traceability and recuperation can help communities and individuals recover.
