Please be aware that currently there is a phishing scheme perpetrated by a person that is falsely invoking our company name (one of which is coming from the email benjamin@careers-beacontechnologies). This person is not working with Beacon Technologies in any capacity. This is a friendly reminder to ignore suspicious emails or texts purporting to be from Beacon Technologies. Hope is powerful. Hope abused is devastating. As a young teenager, *Tatyana hoped for simple things: a good job, a kind husband, a stable life. Her childhood was marked with instability resulting in her working as a housemaid while others her age were learning in school. Tatyana shared her hopes with a man staying in the home where she worked. He listened. He empathized. He expressed care and kindness. Tatyana was soon smitten by his attentiveness. They became romantically involved. Tatyana became pregnant. He shared that they should run away together and start a life together, a family together. Tatyana’s hopes were coming true. After arriving to Mumbai, he took Tatyana to a dilapidated rowhouse and to a small room in the interior. He sold her to the brothel owner and left without a word. Unbeknownst to Tatyana, the transaction had been pre-arranged. The words about a family and a future, the laughter on the train ride to the city, their discussion of baby names in the rickshaw - all was a manipulation of her hopes.  In the following months, she was held against her will and forced to see customers daily. She tried to escape, but was unsuccessful and beaten for the attempt. She lost her baby. She lost hope.  After six years she began to hear whispers of young women being freed. She would not allow herself that hope. But against all odds, she was freed. In aftercare, she began to hear stories of women who had been freed that were now employed and living independently. She would not allow herself that hope. But through diligence in counseling and training, she was offered employment with Aruna. In Aruna, she began to hear stories of women who had been freed, employed and married. She would not allow herself that hope. But over a handful of years filled with healing, personal growth, and healthy deepening relationships, Tatyana was married.   As she surveys her life, a good job, a kind husband, in a place of stability, her eyes fill with emotion and the hopes of her heart have been restored.  As we come to the end of the year, we need your help to see hope restored for other young women like Tatyana. It takes a significant investment to develop trust and relationships with the women in the brothels. Beyond that, once freed, much is required to provide transitional housing, trauma counseling, job skills training and a host of other direct services to care for these young survivors.   We’ve been so encouraged by the generosity of so many partners this year from customers shopping to participants running to donors donating, but we still need $159,000 to fund our expanded efforts in 2024 to free, employ, and empower more women.   Would you consider a generous contribution to the nonprofit work of Aruna to help write more Tatyana stories in 2024? If you’re able to help bring hope, please donate.
