We hosted our first team meeting for our West Coast Creoal + SMX Team this week! At SMX we are committed to investing in our people and one of the ways that we do this is through our RISE leadership program. This program identifies a group of rising leaders within the company and provides them with a year of learning about how the company operates, leadership best practices and more. We are excited to spotlight one of our RISE program alumni, Ricky T. M., SMX Director of Procurement. When asked about his experience in the RISE program Ricky shared: "Leadership development is a crucial component of any successful organization. To foster strong, adaptive leaders, businesses must provide opportunities for growth and exposure to a variety of perspectives. For me, one such opportunity came in the form of the RISE program. The program allowed me to step outside of my usual role and gain an in-depth understanding of how different business units operate and how they contribute to SMX's goals. The program gave me hands-on experience and valuable insights into what makes a business function at its best. I gained a broader perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing our organization, and I walked away with skills and lessons that will guide my work for years to come. One of the most impactful aspects of the RISE program was the opportunity to explore the many facets of our business. As someone who primarily worked within a specific department, I had a narrow view of how the company as a whole operates. The program changed that by providing a comprehensive overview of the different business units, giving me a deeper understanding of how each contributes to the SMX’s collective success. This broader understanding has helped me not only be more effective in my role but also understand how my work impacts the organization as a whole. A key takeaway for me from the RISE program was the realization that leadership is not about control. Instead, it’s about empowering others to reach their full potential. In a corporate setting, the best leaders aren’t those who dictate every decision or micro-manage their teams. Instead, they’re the ones who create an atmosphere of trust and support, where employees are encouraged to take ownership of their work and contribute their ideas. Reflecting on my time in the RISE program, I realize just how much it has shaped my approach to leadership and business. The lessons I learned about empathy, empowerment, communication, and adaptability are not just important for personal growth—they are essential for driving business success.
