As we close out another year, we express our deep gratitude for partnerships and dedication to supporting multilingual learners. Together, we’ve celebrated successes, faced challenges and made strides toward ensuring every child thrives in a culturally and linguistically affirming environment. This holiday season, we reflect on the power of collaboration and the impact of our shared vision. Many have been with us since the start of our journey more than 15 years ago, and now we proudly celebrate 5 years as an independent nonprofit. Thank you for being an integral part of the SEAL community and for the unwavering commitment to advancing equity in education. Today, more than ever, the importance of our work is clear. Together, let’s meet 2025 with renewed energy and a steadfast commitment to centering the incredible strengths and assets of our children and families. #HappyHolidays #SEALedEquity #Gratitude

About us
ℹ️ About: Sobrato Early Academic Language (SEAL) transforms classrooms into rigorous, engaging, joyful learning for all students and educators. Our robust research-based and evidence based approach to teaching and learning transforms school systems by providing professional development, curriculum support and technical assistance. For more than 15 years, SEAL has worked with school districts, county offices of education, schools, preschool LEAs, teachers, families, California Department of Education, and many other education champions to advance educational outcomes of English Learners and Dual Language Learners. It all began with Dr. Laurie Olsen and Sobrato Philanthropies whose strong belief that all children should have access to opportunities for growth and success led to designing, piloting and eventually creating the SEAL you know today. 💥Our Impact: Hundreds of classrooms, thousands of teachers, tens of thousands of students—and counting. The number of school districts successfully implementing SEAL grows each year. 🛠️Our Work: SEAL’s work within school systems has helped improve learning outcomes for Multilingual Learner students by equipping both teachers and leaders with research-based practices and strategies that drive student success. 📧Contact Us: Email us at info@seal.org

Earlier this month, SEAL joined researchers, practitioners, and thought leaders for an engaging briefing on Progress and Status of California's English Learners. We explored new research on long-term English learners (LTELs) in California, their academic outcomes, effective support strategies, and insights from practitioners as the new state dashboard is implemented for the first time. Thank you Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Philanthropies for uplifting all these wonderful resources, including SEAL's P3 Framework that centers English Learners. Together we are building a multilingual future!
Each semester, schools across the country welcome a growing number of students learning English as a second language. As our #multilingual student populations grow, it’s critical that teachers are equipped to provide #literacy instruction that meets their needs, builds on their strengths and prepares them for success in every subject. These resources are designed to help educators do just that. ✔️ Find links in the comments!

Support students thriving in multiple languages! In a SEAL thematic unit on oceans, a 2nd grader proudly shared a poem in Portuguese. Thanks to SEAL strategies and the support of his school and family, he strengthened his multilingual skills in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, while deepening his connection to his culture and identity. This holiday season, you have the opportunity to help more students thrive. Your donation will support inclusive, language-rich classrooms where multilingual learners can excel academically, socially, and cognitively. Give today to help create a brighter, multilingual future for California’s students. 📲 Text SEAL2024 to 44-321 or donate online: https://lnkd.in/gT8c-Dx8 #SEALedEquity #YearEndGiving #Nonprofit #FutureisMultilingual

For nearly two decades, bilingual education was banned in California, Back then, students like Angel struggled in a system that didn’t fully support his learning needs. Meanwhile SEAL was beginning to pilot a new approach to transforming education for English learners. Fast forward to today, and SEAL is proud to celebrate its milestone as an independent nonprofit. Over the years, we’ve grown our impact, reaching more than 50,000 students across California, ensuring students like Angel can access the rich, language-focused learning they deserve. Take a look back with us: Read this KQED article from 2015 to see how SEAL’s vision began and why inclusive education matters. https://bit.ly/4iIFVe4 #SEALedEquity #EnglishLearners #EducationMatters #SEALAnniversary

Teachers have a way of leaving lasting imprints on our hearts. Maybe it was the one who believed in you when you didn’t believe in yourself, or the one who inspired your love for learning. This holiday season, let’s honor those incredible educators by paying it forward. Make a gift in honor of a teacher who impacted your life and help SEAL create brighter futures for California’s young bilingual learners.
