How We Revolutionized Football Coaching Education (Not Only) in Slovakia (Part 3) Building on our domestic success, I started looking for ways to take this even further. That’s when I identified the next two paths for our platform’s growth: 1. Expanding our offerings within Slovakia. 2. Creating an international version of the platform—one that could revolutionize coaching education beyond our borders. As we looked for ways to expand opportunities for coaches in Slovakia, one idea stood out: regular online webinars featuring expert guests covering a variety of topics. But to make this form of education more affordable and accessible, we introduced a membership program—Progressive Coach. With an annual subscription, members gain automatic access to both live webinars and their recordings, which are available on our platform. I’ll be honest—I had concerns. Mainly because we made the deliberate decision to exclude most of this content from counting toward official continuous education credits for license renewal. Why? Because this program was designed for coaches who genuinely want to develop their skills and knowledge—not just those looking to collect points. But my fears turned out to be unfounded. Within the first year, around 10% of all our users became paying members. I see this as a major success, and I believe that number will continue to grow. Of course, the program has evolved over time. We refined our membership tiers, but more importantly, we completely redesigned the format to increase quality. Now, we host webinars almost every two weeks, with topics structured into five clear categories. This ensures that every coach finds at least four sessions directly relevant to their specialization each year—plus another 8-12 topics from related fields. Another big step forward? We brought in Peter Kopúň, the head coach of the Slovak women’s national team, as our new moderator. These changes have significantly improved both the quality and volume of educational content available to coaches. And we’re not stopping there—we’re constantly working on new ways to deliver even more value. How We Revolutionized Football Coaching Education (Not Only) in Slovakia (Part 2) After coaches embraced online education as both natural and highly convenient, we wanted to offer them even more. That’s when we launched an initiative we had proposed to the Slovak FA from the very beginning—allowing third-party content creators to publish courses for continuous coaching education, with full approval from the FA so that these courses could count toward license renewals. And who are these third-party creators? Independent coaches, lecturers, instructors, mentors, researchers, and professionals from the world of football and sports. They began developing and recording their own courses, publishing them on our platform. Yes, we operate as a marketplace, giving experts a space to share and sell their knowledge. I won’t pretend it was easy. At first, convincing instructors to create content—essentially for free, while waiting to see if it would sell—was a major challenge. People tend to prefer a sure thing rather than a risk. But step by step, we made it work. And today, that’s no longer a concern. Instructors now come to us on their own, returning time and again because they see the value. Not just financially, but professionally—by sharing their knowledge, they stay visible and become increasingly recognized across the football community. The result? A win-win-win-win scenario. Coaches, instructors, the FA, and our platform all benefit. Since COVID-19 wasn’t just a short-term disruption, we later partnered with the Slovak FA for another Coaching Conference—one that proved just as, if not more, successful than the first. More importantly, we’ve since published dozens of additional courses from a wide range of authors, covering every specialization, performance level, and age category. Today, over 90% of all active coaches in Slovakia have used our platform for education. I don’t think it’s an overstatement to say we’ve completely transformed the coaching education market in the country. But never at the expense of quality. Never purely for business. From day one, we prioritized value over profit. Our main goal has always been to ensure that the key players—coaches, instructors, and the FA—genuinely see the benefits of what we provide. And we believe we’ve succeeded. The numbers speak for themselves. Every year, coaches complete tens of thousands of hours of continuous education on our platform. But what we’re most proud of is this: coaches have started embracing self-education. They no longer use our platform just to earn the credits they need for license renewals. They come back because they recognize the importance of ongoing education. Not only have we modernized coaching education, but we’ve also contributed to raising the overall level of football in our country. How We Revolutionized Football Coaching Education (Not Only) in Slovakia (Part 1) Having successfully established ourselves in the world of football education, I’d like to take the next few posts to share our journey—how we transformed the way football coaches (not only in Slovakia) learn and develop. This isn’t just a single story; it’s a series of insights into how we built something that changed the game. Just before COVID-19, we launched our platform with the ambition to reshape football coaching education. When I first introduced my idea (which I’ll share in the following posts) to the Slovak Football Association, they struggled to see how our project could fit into their existing system of coaching education and continuous development. There were concerns about whether coaches would be comfortable using modern technology, how content would be created and shared, and even who should be responsible for producing it. But I had a clear vision. I believed that this project could not only help the association improve the quality and efficiency of coaching education but also make football knowledge more accessible to coaches in a much simpler way—without the need for costly travel, overnight stays, or missing training sessions. Then COVID-19 changed everything. But even in the first weeks and months of the pandemic, the association remained cautious, hoping things would soon return to normal. As time went on, it became clear that wasn’t going to happen. After further discussions, we agreed to move forward together. The association needed to provide coaches with continuous education, as required by UEFA regulations, and I knew exactly how we could make it happen. Since it was impossible for the Slovak FA to hold their annual Coaching Conference in person, we (with Slovak FA) decided to take an unconventional approach—hosting it on our platform. It took months of preparation: we handled the technical side, while the association provided content through its instructors, national team coaches, and academy coaches. We coordinated the entire process, from recording lectures to providing ongoing technical support. In December 2020, we launched the first-ever Slovak FA Online Coaching Conference—a collection of pre-recorded lectures that coaches could purchase for a symbolic fee. That’s when we sparked a small but significant revolution in football coaching education in Slovakia. The conference featured dozens of lectures and courses, structured by coaching license levels, allowing coaches to earn credits toward their license renewals. And while there was some initial hesitation, it didn’t take long for coaches to embrace this new way of learning. But we didn’t stop there. Together with the Slovak FA, we took things even further.
