UK failing to protect trafficked children’s rights amid systemic failures A new report from ECPAT UK and the UK Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner reveals systemic failures that mean the UK is failing to protect trafficked children. Despite a 138% rise in child trafficking cases over five years and British children accounting for 78% of referrals to the National Referral Mechanism (NRM) in 2023, critical legal and policy gaps persist. New report highlights risk of exploitation of adults with cognitive impairment More than a quarter (27%) of the adult population of England – 12 million people – are living with a disability. Of these, 1.5 million have a learning disability, 1.6 million memory or cognition conditions, and 3.9 million with mental health conditions. This new research from the University of Nottingham’s Rights Lab, University of Nottingham, funded by the Nuffield Foundation, provides the first robust description of the link between cognitive impairment and the exploitation of adults in England. Portsmouth City Council unveiled a new package of incentives at the Compass Jobs Fair on Monday, 25 November 2024, aimed at attracting and retaining top social work talent.   Sam Nesbitt, Karley Middleton, Adam Shepherd, Patience Mwarewangepo and Laura Osbourne spoke to delegates at the event sharing their reasons why they are #ProudToBePortsmouth.   We promoted a new market supplement payment of up to £3,000 for experienced social workers in specific teams as well as an enhanced health and wellbeing offer and relocation package.
